Description

The Facilities Manager is responsible for overseeing the management of the vessel’s interior and exterior guest spaces ensuring all upkeep and repair of all guest facilities. This role is neither a traditional facilities managerial role or an engineering role, however you will be reporting directly to the Ships Service Engineer and will also be required to liaise with all department heads on-board the yacht. The role will work amongst a hands-on, pragmatic team made up of Carpenters, Upholsters, Engineers, Able Seafarers and external contractors. Working as a vital team member the incumbant must ensure that guests' expectations, in line with our Gold Standards, are exceeded.

Essential Duties

  1. Ensure all teams abide by Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection vessel management system, and the Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection brand guidelines. 
  2. Maintain and constantly improve the quality of the vessel’s interior and exterior. Including but not limited to fixtures and fittings within all Guest and Crew areas. Other examples of these include Bolidt, brightwork, glass, paint, interior furniture and marble / hardwood flooring.
  3. Carry out facility inspections on board to ensure relevant work gets identified and documented in a systematic manner.
  4. Generate report logs and continuing in-process reviews to ensure that maintenance and or replacement of components can be scheduled.
  5. Update shore-based office with reports on daily defects, minutes of meetings, server logs entries and progress on rectification matters.
  6. Ensure that business maintenance tasks are all completed in a systematic manner to the luxury standard in line with the Ritz Carlton philosophy.
  7. Be observant to the guest interests by ensuring all maintenance and cleanliness feedback is communicated back to the relevant departments. 
  8. Be the direct contact to on any interior issue which may arise. 
  9. Ensure that deck maintenance and interior cleanliness plans are enforced into day-to-day operations. Relaying any form of feedback to the Marine Operations department  
  10. Ensure contractors’ schedules remain within the allocated time frame and budget. 
  11. Make sure crew and contractors are equipped for the task at hand. Responding to any emergencies & issues and minimizing any setbacks which may occur.

Qualifications

  1. Valid Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STCW) and flag certification for the duration of the contract and appropriate to position
  2. Bachelor’s degree or relevant experience in the maritime sector.
  3. Previous management experience in the luxury market, either within the hotel, commercial or design sector with knowledge of high-end finishes and details.
  4. Three years’ experience serving either onboard or in a luxury hotel environment, in a guest facing position.
  5. Shipboard experience within a cruise ship / superyacht background strongly preferred.
  6. Proven record as a successful manager with a high degree of knowledge in all aspects of facilities maintenance, including safety/risk management, compliance, asset management, and fiscal responsibility.
  7. The ability to understand and assess the impact of standards and defects on the guest’s experience.
  8. Knowledge and experience in conducting planning schedules and execute them with a timely manner. Acknowledging areas which require improving and revising tasks from previous errors.
  9. Ability to integrate and communicate with multiple departments and stakeholders across the business.
  10. Excellent knowledge of industry safety and operational best practices with the ability to create SOPs from scratch. 
  11. Excellent ability in building and maintaining vessel operational budgets. 
  12. Excellent team-building skills with well-developed communication and presentation skills
  13. Competency in Microsoft Office and planned maintenance software. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  14. Trustworthy, high ethical standards, ability to work autonomously, maintain a high degree of confidentiality.
  15. Excellent English language communication and presentation skills, strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  16. Demonstrates sound teamwork, strong interpersonal skills, and confident and effective communications skills.

  18. Ability to manage change effectively and implement new concepts.
  19. Flexible, adaptable with the ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines in a fast-paced office environment.


  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to touch, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear; and taste or smell. The Lady or Gentleman must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • All Yacht Ladies and Gentlemen must be physically able to participate in emergency lifesaving procedures and drills. Full use and range of arms and legs as well as full visual, verbal and hearing abilities are required to receive and give instructions in the event of an emergency including the lowering of lifeboats. Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • All Yacht Ladies and Gentlemen must be able to communicate in the English language in order to understand and interpret written procedures. This includes the ability to give and receive instructions in written and verbal forms and to effectively present information and respond to questions from guests, supervisors and co-workers.
