ROLE OVERVIEW
The Business Development Manager (BDM) is responsible for identifying new business opportunities, building and nurturing client relationships and driving revenue growth. This role involves strategic planning, market research, partnership development with close collaboration to expand the company’s market presence. The role is directly accountable for the generation of increased passenger numbers and revenue from assigned geographic areas. Sales and market share is derived via retail and wholesale agencies as well as promoting to the direct consumer market. It is expected that established revenue objectives must be met or exceeded.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES GENERAL
- Identify, evaluate and pursue new business opportunities within designated territory. Generating leads through networking, sales calls, webinars, database communication and trade social platform.
- Manage and strengthen existing key accounts and retail agency relationships along with actively sourcing new partners to drive distribution growth within in the Trade Channel.
- Develop & implement local strategic sales plans to achieve revenue targets.
- Prepare weekly sales reports outlining recent activities, new opportunities and supporting marketing efforts.
SALES AND SERVICE
- Manage assigned territory, ensuring strong, long-term relationships with partners are maintained and continuously developed.
- Drive revenue growth by meeting sales goals and increasing product market penetration through new and existing account relationships.
- Conduct regular in-person and virtual sales calls or meetings with key accounts and retail agencies, and document all activities within the designated territory.
- Educate, train, promote, and sell MSC products and services to agents through webinars, MSC BOOK, direct calls, and presentations.
- Negotiate group sales contracts in collaboration with the Group Department to meet established group sales budgets and targets.
- Partner with the Marketing Department to ensure clear, consistent communication in the marketplace and support joint initiatives.
MARKETING
- Support Agents with sales and marketing initiatives, including the development of marketing plans to drive sales performance.
- Supply Agents with promotional materials and marketing collateral to enhance their outreach efforts.
- Recommend strategies and improvements to strengthen Agency marketing effectiveness.
- Lead or participate in trade shows, seminars, and related events to promote brand presence and support sales objectives.
OPERATIONAL MANAGEMENT
- Attend weekly Sales meeting to update and provide detail on top sales activity, best of week to team and share ideas and success stories
- Keep record of sales activities and CO-OP detailing objective and ROI
- Manage allocated Regional A&P Budget along with allocated T&E Budget
- Plan, prepare, and carry out sales plan for each campaign period, supporting the company’s passenger and revenue goals.
ADMINISTRATION
- Stays up to date on any new information shared by the Sales, Marketing and Operations teams.
- Keeps regional agency / client databases accurate and updated
- Completes special projects / surveys as needed
REPORTING AND ANALYSIS
- Provides feedback reports to inform management of competitive conditions, enhance promotional effectiveness and facilitate development of marketing strategies.
- Review customer insights to find opportunities to increase direct sales and help shape marketing strategies
- Reports on growth and development of market share, with regular updates on passenger and revenue state targets
Your Journey so far
EXPERIENCE
- Knowledge of MSC products desirable
- 5+yrs relationship-sales experience in the travel industry, including a track record of revenue growth.
- Must have experience in retail/consumer marketing and broad-based travel agency accounts and/or distribution systems.
- Good organisational, management and communication skills, including public speaking.
- Strong project skills – including planning, budgeting and forecasting skills.
- Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
- Must be willing to travel frequently and work evenings and weekends.
- Proven ability to develop and deliver sales presentations that close the deal
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience
