Your Purpose

The Operations Manager is responsible for the smooth execution of all island guest services and staff operations at all times.

The guest island experience is paramount and the Operations Manager coordinates predominantly all guest facing island teams and works in parallel with all ship Hotel department teams (F&B, Entertainment, Shore excursions and supporting departments) to successfully and safely execute all standard operations, procedures and activities. In addition the Operations Manager is responsible for all island employees code of conduct, protocols and procedure adherence as well as the profitability of the islands financial performance.

Your Impact

  1. Ensure successful clearance of vessels by on-site officials upon arrival and departure in collaboration with shipboard responsible person(s)
  2. Oversees ship mooring activities and ensure rules and regulations are followed by Marine Operations Manager and departmental staff, including the correct use of PPE equipment
  3. Recommends to the General Manager and evaluates the viability of introducing improved operational procedures, sharing best practices. Responsible for testing and reporting on success/failure of any new procedures
  4. Monitors guest satisfaction through comments to identify key issues and proposes corrective actions to the General Manager
  5. Reports and follows up on any maintenance issues encountered to relevant Heads of Department and/or the General Manager
  6. Ensure all island outlets, restrooms, rental facilities, shops, beaches, pathways, etc. are ready for ship call days
  7. Communicates clearly and timely with vessel’s management teams on any requirements, updates, needs to ensure right expectations are set for guests and shipboard teams prior to arrival
  8. Continuously monitors, reviews and updates, in collaboration with the General manager, Ocean Cay SOP’s and manuals and enforces the implementation and any follow up required 
  9. Understands and actively involved in the implementation, governance and compliance of all appropriate Public Health, hygiene, sanitation and safety policies, environmental policies, pest management, procedures and plans and successful passage of all external and internal regulatory audits
  10. Follows up on security related accidents. For issues not related to security, reports to be submitted to the GM, HR or VP Hotel Operations USA
  11. Oversees and trains where applicable all Hotel departmental employees and managers.
  12. Ensures that each guest facing manager is habitually performing their managerial duties, including staff evaluations
  13. Conducts management team meetings as required to meet and exceed guest expectations
  14. Conducts meetings with ship hotel management towards the end of the day as required, to discuss the day’s operations and any guest issues or improvement needs
  15. Ensures that the management of personnel and hotel costs are in line with the allocated budget.
  16. Reviews island revenue operations and critically analyses revenue streams and provides input and feedback to the General Manager that may improve revenues.
  17. Regularly reviews the standard and quality of staff meals, ensuring that kitchen staff are following set menu rotations.
  18. Has knowledge of requirements for Marine Reserve designation, especially related to all Environmental policies and SOP’s, both Bahamian and MSC

Your Journey so far

  1. Documented successful previous experience in a cruise line private destination is an advantage in addition to work experience within the cruise industry or shoreside resort destination.
  2. Proven ability to manage medium to large department employees (50+ staff)
  3. Good knowledge of Public Health and codes in force governing Bahamian, USPH and MSC Cruises standards
  4. Demonstrated skills in F&B, Housekeeping and Finance management procedures and systems
  5. Highly skilled in tactful, diplomatic crisis and problem handling.
  6. A sound, working knowledge of similar competitive products in the Cruise industry or land-based hospitality structure.
  7. Proven ability to create and work in a harmonious productive team environment
  8. Proven ability to work within a harmonious and diverse culture team environment
  9. Able to work 7 days a week and willing to live on a private destination away from family & friends for a minimum of 3 months uninterrupted in warm climate.
  10. Proactive, Team Player.
  11. Fluent English verbal and written skills. Knowledge of other core language is an advantage.
  12. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs/22.6kgs.
