Responsibilities and Tasks

  • If assigned as watch keeper: To ensure a safe watch and the performance of the assigned sub-department.
  • If assigned to day shift: To ensure maintenance is carried out as requested in an efficient and accurate manner.

Duties include (but are not limited to):

  • Safe management of an engineering watch (if assigned as watch keeper).
  • Compliance with Engine Room Resource Management standards of the company.
  • Compliance with all relevant flag state and class as well as other applicable regulations
  • Close communication and reporting to all stakeholders and superiors.
  • Organizing preventive maintenance of technical equipment of the assigned sub-department, including necessary repair works in accordance with ERM, supported by the Day Engineer Maintenance and additional resources assigned by the Staff Engineer if required.
  • Enforcement of the rules of health care, occupational safety and fire protection within the whole engine department and responsible to conduct or delegate relevant training.
  • Training, guidance and supervision of all subordinated crewmembers.
  • Perform maintenance as per requirement of PMS for the assigned sub-department including inventory check of spares and consumables.
  • Relevant entries into the engine logbook, the oil record book and other relevant logs as per legislation and the requirements of the ship owner.
  • Control bunkering of the vessel.
  • Fulfilment of responsibilities from the Environmental Compliance Plan.
  • Participating the daily engine officer’s morning meeting if assigned to.
  • Comply with QMS (Quality Management System) and LMS (Learning Management System) requirements.
  • Supports planning/ evaluation of dry docks and external repair/ service activities.
  • Supports bunker operation of the vessel.

Qualifications and competence

  • Bachelor or Master degree or Polytechnical degree of technical ship’s operation or similar
  • Minimum 6 months of sea service as technical watch officer.
  • CoP Designated Security Duties, STCW A-VI/6-2
  • Crowd Management
  • CoP AFF Advanced Fire Fighting
  • CoP Medical First Aid
  • Basic Training Certificates as per STCW standard
  • Covid 19 Certificate
  • Health certificate
