Duties include (but are not limited to):

1. Navigation & Watchkeeping   

Stand navigational watches (usually 8–12 or 12–4) on the bridge.

Ensure safe navigation of the vessel using radar, ECDIS, charts, and GPS.

Maintain a proper logbook of the ship’s movement, weather, and any incidents.

Maintain lookout and ensure proper communication with other vessels and VTS.

Follow COLREGs (International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea).

 2. Safety & Emergency Equipment
Responsible for lifesaving appliances (LSA): life jackets, lifeboats, life rafts, MOB gear.

Maintain and inspect firefighting equipment (FFE): extinguishers, fire hoses, breathing apparatus.

Assist in conducting lifeboat drills, passenger safety drills, and crew training.

Maintain safety logs and inspection records.

 3. Deck Operations
Assist with mooring/unmooring operations.

Monitor ballast and tank soundings if assigned.

Supervise deck crew during maintenance tasks (painting, cleaning, etc.).

Assist with loading and unloading of provisions or cargo (on smaller passenger ships or ferries).

 4. Administration & Documentation
Assist with ISM/ISPS documentation, safety checklists, and reports.

Record and update maintenance logs and inventory of safety equipment.

Report to the Chief Officer and support the bridge team during audits or inspections.

 5. Emergency Response
Assigned as a station officer during emergencies like fire, man overboard, or abandon ship.

May lead a fire team or lifeboat station during drills and real emergencies.

Must know all emergency procedures and respond according to the ship's SMS (Safety Management System).

Required Qualifications:
Officer of the Watch (OOW) Certificate (STCW-compliant).

STCW basic safety courses (PST, FPFF, PSSR, and EFA).

Radar, ARPA, GMDSS, ECDIS certification.

Good communication and leadership skills.

Work Experience Requirements
