  Duties include (but are not limited to): 

1. Receive daily work orders from the Chief Officer.
2. Oversees the general maintenance of all woodwork, doors, locks, carpets, tiling, awnings/shades, and furniture in the public areas as well as guest and crew cabins. This may include but is not limited to these activities: touch-up painting, varnishing, wallpapering, sewing, cutting, tacking and fitting.
3. Assists the Staff Captain/Chief Officer with the ordering of spare parts and materials.
4. Establishes a weekly schedule for the routine maintenance of the vessel as it pertains to carpentry and associated repairs, taking into consideration the ports of call, time, port, and local regulations.
5. Ensures that crew is using the proper safety and protection equipment in daily
operations and those critical working areas are sealed off from passengers and other crew.  

6. Takes responsibility for proper on-the-job training for the Carpenters and Upholsterers as necessary. Provides additional hands-on support in daily tasks.

7. Knows, follows, and enforces SQM policies.
8. Attends mandatory crew and guest safety drills as required.
9. Performs related duties as assigned by the Staff Captain/Chief Officer
10. Responsible for the Carpenter’s Workshop.
11. Shall, when required by the Bosun, shall be available to carry out other necessary deck maintenance work such as painting and including mooring/un-mooring of the ship.
12. Responsible for daily tanks sounding (BWT, Potable water tanks, cofferdams, void space, etc.).
13. Responsible for technical and fresh water bunkering, and monitoring potable water tanks. 

Qualifications:
Hiring Requirements:
Minimum hiring, language, and physical requirements to perform the job.
• 5-10 years prior experience as a carpenter in a commercial environment, preferably with hotel/cruise line experience and with a minimum of 2 year in a supervisory capacity.
• Basic knowledge of upholstering/furniture building, wooden decks, carpeting, painting & wallpapering, and textiles.
Other Skills:
• Active Listening – listening to what other people are saying and asking appropriate questions for clarification.

Work Experience Requirements

All applicants must have previous experience in working on a Cruise Ship.

Language Requirements

Good knowledge of the English language is required.
