V.Ships Leisure is looking for AV Manager on behalf of Azamara Cruises.
This position manages all Audio-Visual (AV) equipment and personnel. The AV Manager is responsible for the usage and operational maintenance of all audio-visual equipment, and the general operations of this equipment for performances by entertainers, as well as all programmed activities by the entertainment staff. Due to the size of the department, the AV Operator is designated as the AV Manager and will be responsible for the below duties in conjunction with their other Job Description.
Key Responsibilities
- Directs, coaches, supports, supervises, and evaluates the job performance of the Audio-Visual operator.
- Provides technical management for shows and activities.
- Supervises and coordinates all striking of poolside equipment.
- Conducts weekly meetings with the Audio-Visual Team.
- Supervises and coordinates the Audio-Visual Team’s daily schedules.
- Acts as audio-visual troubleshooter to help solve any equipment or stage problems and informs the appropriate onboard Engineering personnel.
- Practices the art of delegation with the Audio-Visual Team during peak times, while at the same time leading by example.
- Reports any equipment in need of repair or replacement to the Cruise Director, Hotel Director, onboard Engineering Personnel, and other members of the ship’s management as appropriate.
- Sets up the Cabaret Lounge along with the Audio-Visual Operator for show time to include the following: Production Shows and Cabarets, Audio-Visual Projections, Lighting, Sound, Stage Mechanics, and Scenery.
- Responsible for the projection of any films and/or video movies or other material.
- Designs or oversees the design of lighting, sound, and stage effects for Featured Entertainers.
- Maintains complete records of equipment failures and request repair or replacement. Also keeps records of equipment that has been repaired and returned to service, or replacement equipment that has been provided. Maintains up-to-date documentation of inventory related to both equipment and supplies.
- Keeps notes of ongoing status of equipment and all A-V operational areas in general. The reports and documentation described above are to be provided to his/her successor in the official hand-over notes and are also to be forwarded to the ship’s management, and corporate office on the first day of each month for archiving.
- Attends and participates in all monthly Hotel Maintenance meetings.
- Moves, sets, operates, strikes, and stores all audio-visual equipment, such as lighting, sound, scenery, props, etc., throughout the ship on a day-to-day basis as needed and delegated/assigned by the corporate office and the Cruise Director.
- Responsible for the scheduling of all rehearsals, training, and performances, including required personnel scheduling.
- Keeps accurate and up-to-date documentation of all show particulars. This includes running orders, cue lists, etc. (includes light, sound, and scenery movement cues). Assembles and maintains the “Prompt Book”, keeping accurate records of playing text, cue sheets, stage plots and all stage-related documentation and correspondence.
- Oversees all cast pre-sets, and all post performance “put-away”. Coordinates related tasks with the Vocal Captain or Dance Captain.
- Oversees maintenance to ensure the quality of all show props and sets. Establishes the weekly maintenance schedule.
- In conjunction with the Broadcast Manager, oversees the maintenance of all technical equipment used in presentations. Establishes the weekly maintenance schedule.
- Schedules and performs safety and inventory checks to assure proper storage.
- Oversees all ship’s entertainment property; and in conjunction with the Broadcast Manager, Vocal Captain/Dance Captain, and others as appropriate, maintains inventory lists of all entertainment equipment, describing the status of the equipment.
- Ensures that all equipment functions properly and that any equipment sent ashore for repair is received ashore with the proper paperwork, and that the shoreside office is advised accordingly.
- Ensures that repaired equipment is returned to the vessel on a timely basis and that proper repair records are maintained.
- Acts as liaison between shoreside Entertainment management, Producer, and onboard production show personnel.
- Aware of, and/or acquires the necessary knowledge to comply with the ship’s standard operation, to assist guests and crewmembers with inquiries.
- Attends meetings, training activities, courses and all other work-related activities as required.
- Attends mandatory crewmember's and guest safety drills as required.
- Shipboard employees will be required to perform any other job-related duties assigned by their supervisor or management.
- Responsible for effectively managing the time and attendance of their own and direct reports’ work and rest hours in accord with MLC regulations and company procedures.
- Conducts workstation spot checks to ensure items are correctly stored to minimize deterioration and waste.
Education/Experience/Qualifications:
- Minimum of two years’ experience as an AV Manager in an upscale hotel, resort, cruise ship, entertainment, or recreational industry (shipboard experience preferred).
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
- Superior customer service, teambuilding, and conflict resolution skills.
- Very strong communication, problem solving, organizational, decision making, and interpersonal skills.
- Basic computer software skills required.
- Completion of high school or basic education equivalency required.
- Coursework in theater technical management at an accredited college or university or the international equivalent preferred.
- Completion of 4 contracts as an AV Operator with a performance rating of proficient or above along with demonstrated leadership skills.
- No disciplinary action on file for the last 12 months.
- Ability to speak English clearly, distinctly, and cordially with guests.
- Ability to read and write English to understand and interpret written procedures.
- This includes the ability to give and receive instructions in written and verbal forms and to effectively present information and respond to questions from guests, supervisors, and co-workers.
- Ability to speak additional languages such as Spanish, French, or German is preferred.
