Engine Cadet for Silversea Cruises

We are looking for ENGINE CADET ready to join SILVERSEA cruises, embarkation is ASAP, contract 6 months +/-1, required some shipboard experience as such, all valid Certificates including certificates for passenger ships as per STCW Reg.V/2.
Position Summary
- Under the guidance of the Chief Engineer and Staff Engineer the Engine Cadet is to apply practically the knowledge gained at nautical college. Develop knowledge and understanding of the overall operation of the vessel by introduction to other departments.
Reporting Structure
- Reporting to the Chief Engineer, Staff Engineer and on duty Engineer.
Safety Duties:
- Participates in crew safety drills according to instructions.
- Must always comply with the Company’s safety and pollution prevention regulations and operating procedures.
- Leads by example by taking care of Health and Safety of self and others.
- Ensures that all work equipment, personal protective equipment, chemicals and safety devices are being used correctly.
Education/Experience/Qualifications:
- Valid STCW certification.
- Completion of a Maritime Engineering program or current enrolment in an accredited Maritime Engineering program.
- Appropriate certification as required by regulations.
- Physically and medically fit.
- Moral integrity is required.
Language requirements:
Excellent fluent English (verbal, written and technical). English is the working and safety language on board. This also includes the ability to give and receive instructions in verbal and written forms and to effectively and efficiently engage with guests and crew members. Additional languages are considered beneficial.
Computer knowledge:
Good working knowledge of Microsoft applications.
Physical Demands and Working Conditions:
Required to stand, walk long distances, reaching and sitting. Repetitive motion of bending, going up and down stairs, climbing ladders. Lifting or pushing of up to 50lbs. The position requires overtime work and irregular schedules. Works in the Engine Control Room, Engine spaces with noise, light traffic, distracting environments.

Key Responsibilities
- Gain a thorough knowledge of equipment, maintenance, watch keeping and learning the various onboard systems (to include but not limited to the following):
- Fuel
- Ballast
- Hydraulic
- Generators
- HVAC
- Refrigerant units
- Participates and assists in engine watches under the supervision of the on duty Engineer to learn watch keeping requirements, monitoring of the operation of the main and auxiliary engines and equipment within the engine room.
- Assists in maintenance tasks under the supervision of the on duty Engineer (to include but not limited to the following):
- Ships main and auxiliary engines
- All mechanical equipment
- Workshop processes
- Pumps and fuel systems
- Electrical generating and distribution
- Refrigeration
- Air conditioning
- Life Boats and Tender Engines and propulsion system
- Keeps the Chief Engineer, Staff Engineer and duty Engineer promptly and fully informed of all problems, matters of significance, any issues that may compromise the ships safety and any deficiencies found in the machinery or equipment.
- Becomes familiar with all matters of administration and organisation of the vessel.
- General engine room and all other duties as assigned by supervisors.
- Cadets are expected to be proactive with their approach to their time onboard and seek out opportunities for their own growth and development. Proactively engaging with officers and crew to benefit their professional knowledge.
- Observes and enforces uniform and grooming standards according to Company policies.
- Cadets are potential officers and therefore expected to behave as such both on and off duty.
- Completion of training/cadet record book.
