Assignment

1. The Third Officer - is a Bridge Watchkeeper as required by the Bridge Operations Manual (BOM) and Bridge Resource Management (BRM), according to ship’s posted schedule. While on watch, the Officer reports directly to the Master, or to Staff Captain as conditions require.

Watchkeeping Responsibilities:

1.1 Be familiar with and have a thorough knowledge of the Navigation Policy and Procedures manual, relevant SMS content, nautical publications, be competent in the use of industry standard nautical technology and exercise good Bridge Resource Management and skills at all times;
1.2 Be fully aware of and always follow Company and Master’s standing orders;
1.3 Remain continuously vigilant whether at sea or in port, maintaining safety and security awareness and a good liaison with other vessel departments, in particular the Engine Control Room, at all times;
1.4 In charge of safety and security of vessel, including but not limited to residents / crew figures onboard/ashore, access to vessel and bridge, lights flags and shapes, security of lifeboats and other objects especially in bad weather, shell doors, watertight doors, tender platforms, gangways and opening/closing of decks in bad weather, mooring arrangements and the status of the lines at all times in port;
1.5  Fully aware of all works requiring a work permit, monitoring their status and making sure the work permits are properly closed at the completion of the job
1.6 Take charge of Tendering Service, monitoring residents and crew movement, assuring a smooth flow movement, and giving permission for the tender move. Report immediately to Staff Captain / Safety Officer or Master any issues and concerns
1.7  Taking care of the ship’s stability as instructed by the Staff Captain, keeping the ship upright, communicating with the ECR and recording any operation for Potable Water Technical and Ballast Water; monitoring ship’s activities (fresh water bunkering, loading/offloading provisions, luggage, materials, waste etc)   
1.8   Monitoring ship’s mooring, and surroundings of the vessel, focusing on the weather changes; frequent communication with the gangway personnel, ensuring the safe set-up of the gangway and use of the most convenient access (shell doors) to the ship, in accordance with the tides and height of the pier
1.9   Demonstrate good leadership in matters of occupational health, safety, security, environmental awareness and quality standards, and effectively supervise any ratings assigned to their watch or maintenance duties;
1.10 Passing of all relevant and necessary information to following watch, including but not limited to relevant port and/or navigational information, decks open/closed status, shell door conditions, recreational water facilities, and any other important activities ongoing onboard (e.g. bunkering, permits to work, garbage, loading, embarkation).

The Third Officer has to be able to:

  1. Being the Co-Navigator for the officer of the Watch responsibilities.
  2. Logging records in the relevant Logbooks.
  3. Being fully conversant with the use of the GMDSS equipment & carrying out daily/weekly/monthly tests.
  4. Monitoring the operational condition of bridge equipment and reporting any fault to the First Officer.
  5. Carrying out planned maintenance work orders according to AMOS System.
  6. Assisting in Crew Safety training.
  7. Safety equipment maintenance and inspections as required by the PMS.
  8. Assisting in lifeboat training and lowering.
  9. Inventory and PMS maintenance related to safety.
  10. Assisting with inspections and reporting observations /defects of LSA lifting appliances.
  11. Updating and managing the Chart and Publications folio.
  12. Assisting the 1st Officer (Navigation) with passage planning as required.
  13. Administrating the Bridge Teams work and rest hours records and printing at the end of the month.
  14. Maintaining a regular check for all bridge/SRTP equipment.
  15. Sunrise and sunset calculation.
  16. Conducting drills according to Safety Calendar.
  17. Cleanliness of the bridge.
  18. Bridge stationery and inventory
  19. Updating checklists, telephone lists and etc.
  20. Updating tidal information for ports of call
  21. Update all the new forms from DOC master
  22. Logging records in the relevant Logbooks
  23. Assisting in the management and training of deck crew.
  24. Assisting with the running of the deck maintenance programmes and deck crew.
  25. Tank work and inspections.
  26. Monitoring the Ballast Waterlog- fresh water bunkering logs.
  27. Assisting with deck Inventory management and PMS maintenance.
  28. Assisting with inspections and reporting of non-LSA lifting appliances, davits and cranes.
  29. Assisting with the vessels crack register.
  30. Assisting with the maintenance of Deck Department Chemical inventory list and the Deck Department Hazmat Familiarization & training.

Based on above particular jobs/tasks will be assigned onboard.
