Staff Chief Engineer

Salary: circa €85,680 per annum
Rotation: 12 weeks on / 12 weeks off
Location: Worldwide – Cruise Fleet

We are recruiting an experienced Staff Chief Engineer (SCE) to join a leading cruise line and play a key role in the safe, efficient and reliable operation of a modern, large passenger vessel 

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with strong technical expertise, proven leadership experience, and a stable career history to step into a high-impact role supporting the Chief Engineer and leading a multi-disciplinary engineering team.

About the Role

As Staff Chief Engineer, you will:

Act as the Deputy to the Chief Engineer, overseeing the performance of the Engine Room and all main machinery.

Lead, manage and develop the watchkeeping and maintenance teams, ensuring all work is carried out safely and in full compliance with company and statutory requirements.

Oversee planned and preventative maintenance activities, ensuring accurate engineering and maintenance records are maintained.

Support and supervise contractors on board, reporting on progress, performance and compliance.

Ensure all SOLAS equipment is maintained, tested and fully operational.

Liaise effectively with shoreside teams and other senior officers on technical priorities, emergencies and departmental matters.

Contribute to the delivery of the technical asset management plan and proactively identify improvements.

Represent the Engineering Department at corporate and passenger-facing events as required.

 

What We’re Looking For

To be considered, candidates must have:

At least 3 years of recent experience as Staff Chief Engineer on vessels over 60,000 GT.

A stable and progressive career history with strong onboard tenure.

Demonstrable experience leading and managing engineering teams, ideally including hotel/facilities maintenance teams.

A completed Marine Engineering Cadetship with an HND or Foundation Degree, or equivalent.

Chief Engineer Unlimited (Motor) Certificate of Competency.

Strong command of written and spoken English.

Valid STCW certificates including:

Basic Safety

Advanced Fire Fighting

Medical First Aid

Survival Craft & Rescue Boats

High Voltage Management
