Line Crewing is seeking qualified candidates for the position of NIGHT WATCH to work onboard European river cruise vessels, with full onboard accommodation provided.

 

- will be under Seasonal Dutch Contracts, running from March to November, with a potential continuation into refugee operations thereafter. Contracts are based on 38 working hours per week, with overtime paid accordingly.

Experience, Skills, and Character

  • Strong public relations skills with excellent command of English, German, and/or Dutch where necessary.
  • Minimum of 2 years vessel experience.
  • Typing proficiency.
  • Computer skills: iOS, Windows, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel), Outlook, Fidelio Cruise (or similar ship management software), Stock Control System; ability to learn onboard cloud-based systems.
  • Ability to communicate with all levels of personnel and passengers.
  • Reliable, self-motivated, and able to work unsupervised.
  • Ability to work a flexible night schedule in line with company standards.
  • Primary Responsibilities

Night Shift Duties:

  • Represent the management team and ensure the safety of the vessel, guests, and crew during the night.
  • Maintain friendly and professional interactions with guests at the Reception.
  • Perform standard administrative duties during the night shift.
  • Be available at the Captain’s and Hotel Manager’s disposal for any necessary tasks and report unusual matters promptly.
  • Night shift timings: 22:00 (10:00 PM) – 08:00 (08:00 AM).
  • Conduct hourly safety inspections (safety rounds) of designated checkpoints.


Standard Duties and Responsibilities

  • Be friendly and professional with passengers and crew while staying focused on assigned tasks.
  • Discuss and check with the Hotel Manager any special guest requests (e.g., wake-up calls).
  • Lock entrance doors when the ship is stationary overnight.
  • Inspect engine rooms, freezers, and fridges during safety rounds; record data in logbooks.
  • Sort and organize bar receipts and administrative documents.
  • Update and display the daily restaurant menu at the Reception.
  • Manage candles, fruit/candy baskets, flowers/plants, and cleanliness in Reception/Bar areas.
  • Clean, dust, vacuum, and mop Reception, Lounge, Bar, Souvenir Shop, and public area toilets.
  • Maintain laundry operations (clean filters, refill machines) and coffee/tea stations.
  • Replenish bar/restaurant fridges; check stock and food freshness.
  • Prepare early breakfast for guests and crew; maintain Crew Mess HACCP standards.
  • Assist guests with luggage during embarkation/disembarkation.
  • Make wake-up calls as requested by guests.
  • Prepare boarding cards and postcards the night before embarkation/disembarkation.
  • Follow vessel security, fire, and safety procedures; report all unusual matters to the Captain and Hotel Manager.
  • Maintain uniform dress code and professional demeanor.
  • At the end of the shift, report all matters to the Hotel Manager.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Check the alarm panel multiple times; call nautical department and/or Hotel Manager in case of emergency.
  • Place the safety signboard on the Reception desk during rounds.
  • Print and submit a safety report signed by the Captain after the last round.
  • Ensure no visitors enter the ship during the night shift.
  • Assist guests with special requests (extra pillows, blankets, etc.).
  • Enforce crew-only rules in the Mess Room and Bar; ensure no unauthorized food is consumed.
  • Ensure crew breakfast is fresh and properly displayed.
  • No mobile phones or personal electronic devices during duty.
  • Always follow QRC standards and vessel-specific procedures as instructed by the Hotel Manager and Captain.
  • Communicate proactively for clarification on vessel-specific duties.
