The Chief Purser on board will be responsible for overseeing the smooth operations of the Front Office department, with a focus on providing exceptional service to guests. The Chief Purser will supervise the SR. Purser’s, Guest Services, Documentation and Crew ensuring efficient coordination and delivery of services. The Chief Purser onboard will play a key role in managing and overseeing the vessel's financial operations. The Chief Purser will ensure accurate financial reporting, compliance with regulatory requirements, and effective financial management specific to the ship operations. This role demands strong financial expertise and a commitment to maintaining the highest standards of financial integrity on board. The Chief Purser has financial Responsibility on board. This role requires excellent leadership skills, attention to detail, and the ability to handle guest inquiries and concerns effectively.
· Financial Management: Oversee all financial activities. Ensure the Hotel Dept's financial health by monitoring cash flows, analyzing financial data, and providing strategic financial guidance;
· Accounting Oversight: Supervise the accounting team to maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records. Ensure compliance with accounting standards and regulations while managing financial transactions, including accounts payable and receivable;
· Financial Reporting: Prepare and review financial statements, reports, and analyses. Present financial information to senior management and shoreside office. Responsible for timely and correct starting and closing of reporting periods such as End of Day, End of Cruise, End of Month, and of Year with the support of the Night Auditor;
· Audit and Compliance: Coordinate and manage internal audits, ensuring timely completion and compliance with regulatory requirements. Implement and maintain internal controls to safeguard financial assets and data;
· Financial Systems: Oversee financial systems and software, ensuring they are up-to-date and efficient. Collaborate with IT to implement improvements and upgrades as needed;
· Cash Management: Manage cash flow, banking relationships, and treasury functions. Overall responsible for all Cash onboard, such as Main Safe, Crew Safe, Crew Welfare Funds, Local Purchase Allowances, Petty Cash for Reception;
· Cost Control: Implement cost control measures to optimize expenses and improve financial efficiency. Identify areas for cost savings and recommend strategies for cost reduction;
· Guest Services Operations: Embarkation/Debarkation Operations: Liaise with Port Agent and Local Authorities to arrange the coordination and overlook the embarkation and debarkation operations, and any other needs during turnaround;· Supervision Sr Purser Crew: ensuring that the Crew Office operations run smoothly. Monitor performance, conduct regular training sessions, and foster a positive working environment. Ensure compliance with all legal and regulatory requirements;· Supervision Sr Purser Guest Services: Provide guidance and support to the Sr Purser Guest Services and the Front Office Team, ensuring that front office operations run smoothly. Monitor performance, conduct regular training sessions, and foster a positive working environment. Supervise the front desk staff, ensuring efficient check-in and check-out procedures, accurate billing, and proper handling of guest accounts. Monitor room availability, coordinate room assignments, and manage guest room reservations. Ensure that guests receive a warm welcome, efficient check-in, and personalized attention throughout their stay. Ensure guest inquiries, requests, and complaints are handled promptly and professionally;· Supervision Sr. Purser Documentation Officer: Oversee the work of the Sr. Purser Documentation Officer, who handles immigration and customs procedures for guests. Ensure compliance with all legal and regulatory requirements and maintain effective communication with relevant authorities to facilitate smooth clearance processes;· Guest Relations: Foster positive relationships with guests, engaging in personalized interactions, and actively seeking feedback to continuously improve service delivery. Handle guest complaints or concerns in a timely and effective manner, finding appropriate solutions;· Training and Development: Conduct regular training sessions for the front office team to enhance their skills and knowledge. Stay updated on industry trends and best practices and share relevant information with the team;· Administrative Tasks: Oversee administrative functions, such as maintaining accurate guest records, preparing reports, and managing departmental expenses within the allocated budget;· Safety and Security: Ensure compliance with ship safety protocols and emergency procedures within the front office department. Monitor security measures and promptly report any incidents or concerns;· Communication and Collaboration: Foster effective communication and collaboration with other vessel departments, including housekeeping, food and beverage, and deck & engine, to ensure seamless guest experiences and resolve operational issues.
Requirements:
• A minimum of 5-years’ experience in similar roles, preferably in a luxury ship and/ or luxury hotel setting;
• Proficiency in English is essential, with excellent verbal and written communication skills. Any additional languages are a plus;
• Previous experience on cruise vessels of comparable size;
• Proven leadership and supervisory skills, with the ability to motivate and develop a team;
• Strong organizational and multitasking abilities with exceptional attention to detail;
• Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to handle guest complaints and concerns with professionalism and empathy;
• Knowledge of ship operations, including clearance procedures and familiarity with maritime regulations, is advantageous;
• Proficiency in shipboard property management systems, Microsoft Office, and front office software;
• Knowledge of Fidelio, Otalio and MXP is a plus;
• Flexibility to adapt to changing circumstances and handle unexpected situations;
• Ability to work in a dynamic and fast-paced, 24/7 operational environment, including weekends and holidays;
• Understanding of shipboard safety and security protocols and the ability to ensure compliance.
