V.Ships Leisure is looking for S.A.L.T. Host/ Culinary on behalf of Silversea. Overall responsibility of delivering high quality, efficient, individualized and technically excellent for S.A.L.T (Sea & Land Taste) programs in accordance with Company Policies, strictly upholding any Public Health standards and working towards a goal of achieving total guest satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provides guests with the highest quality service by managing and overseeing the S.A.L.T programs.
  •  Serves as daily host and guest-facing contact for all the S.A.L.T (Sea & Land Taste) programs.
  •  Manages and oversees all daily activities in the S.A.L.T Lab.
  •   Serves as liaison between S.A.L.T Chef de Cuisine, S.A.L.T Bartender, and Kitchen Steward, ensuring all venues are prepped and ready for cooking demos, classes, presentations, lectures, workshops.
  •   Collaborates with the Cruise Director and F&B Teams to ensure all elements of culinary programming are aligned and smoothly executed.
  •  Overview Cooking demonstrations and classes, wine tastings with S.A.L.T Chef de Cuisine, and delivers talks on local food culture.
  •  Spend the requisite time on research, study and familiarization of the subject matter, location and food for the sailing region.
  •  Attends, when possible, the S.A.L.T experiences ashore, to drive connectivity on the program. Ensuring quality, assisting local hosts and help guests to come away with real appreciation of local food culture, ingredients and tradition.
  • Demonstrates an ability to support the implementation of all aspects of the program onboard.
  •  The S.A.L.T Host will set up collateral, coordinating recipe printing with the Media Manager and organizing all audio visual set up with Broadcast Manager. .
  •  Ensures proficiency in lecture delivery. Lectures must be delivered on local cuisine and culture, and other events in the S.A.L.T Lab, working across departments with the Hotel Director and Cruise Director to facilitate needs of guest chefs, authors and other visiting culinary experts.
  • Works collaboratively with the Shore Concierge team by promoting S.A.L.T-branded culinary shore excursions with guests during the cruise to boost participation, and joining S.A.L.T ashore experiences where possible serving as an extra Host. Escorting duties include helping answer guest questions and making connections between ingredients, dishes and traditions of the ports visited to tell the culinary narrative of the cruise.
  •  Proactively interacts with all guests in order to identify expectations and needs, fulfilling them promptly.
  • Demonstrates utmost sincerity and hospitality with all guest interactions.
  •  Regularly monitors guest satisfaction and ensures personal responsibility and accountability.
  • Reviews all mid-cruise and end-of-cruise comment cards and acts accordingly. Guest satisfaction being measured on a cruise-by-cruise basis by guest rating scores.
  • Ensures confidentiality when handling sensitive information.
  • Ensures that the Silversea product and service standards are in place and maintained.
  • Adheres to Public Health and Company specific cleaning and maintenance standards and executes strict Public Health practices in all aspects of the position.
  • Ensures the readiness for any announced or unannounced Public Health inspection, whether completed internally or by external authorities.
  • Provides information and consultancy during inspections
  •  Observes and adheres to the uniform and grooming standards according to Silversea standards and policies.
  • Strives to create and maintain a positive work environment. Successfully leading subordinates into productive working methods by setting an example and utilizing all available tools.
  • Maintains all equipment in the Lab, monitors and replaces items as required by wear and tear.
  • Ensures timely requests for special ingredients.
  • Coordinates with S.A.L.T Chef de Cuisine to ensure mise-en-place and ingredients are prepared in good time for the classes.
  • Proactively responds to issues or potential problems quickly and efficiently, involving relevant people as required. Communicates any challenges, complaints or service difficulties to the Executive Chef, keeping the F&B Manager and Hotel Director promptly and fully informed of all problems and matters of significance.
  • Displays a thorough knowledge of the ships daily activities to be able to advise the guests.
  • Practices preventive maintenance.
  • Incorporates Company service standards, personalized service and sincere hospitality by creating positive experiences for the guests, efficiently engaging with guests and anticipating their needs.
  • Practices good people management, maintaining proper conduct with all departments around the ship.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Education/Experience/Qualifications:

  • Valid STCW certification.
  •  Culinary Training: Candidate must have some culinary training and experience in a professional kitchen, cooking school or test kitchen, as well as the ability to present and explain dishes in an engaging and informative manner.
  •  Proven experience of budget and financial management within a hospitality environment.
  • Must be outgoing and comfortable in front of a crowd.
  •  Knowledge of Public Health policies and procedures.
  • Physically and medically fit.
  • Moral integrity is required.
  •  Some recipe testing and development experience is required.
  • Worldwide destination and port knowledge is required.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and Powerpoint
  • Experience running cooking demonstrations is desirable

    Language requirements:

  • Excellent fluent English (verbal and written). English is the working and safety language on board Silversea vessels. This also includes the ability to give and receive instructions in verbal and written forms and to effectively and efficiently engage with guests and crew members. This is particularly important in this role, due to the large element of lecturing and speaking with guests, therefore the position requires very clear spoken English.
  • Other language skills, particularly verbal Spanish and Italian are desirable for engaging with guests in these languages.
