V.Ships Leisure is looking for Cruise Director on behalf of Azamara Cruises.
This position has overall responsibility for Activities Team, Enrichment Team, Musicians, Headline Entertainers, Production Performers, AV Manager, Sound/Light Operators, Video Programmers, and Broadcast Manager. Their main responsibility is the direct the whole Entertainment program onboard for guests.
Key Responsibilities
- Directs, coaches, supports, manages, and evaluates (in conjunction with the Hotel Director) the performance of all direct reports.
- Responsible for all policies, procedures and programming of activities relating to the smooth and efficient operation of the Cruise Program.
- Ensures that guest entertainment and activities are carefully integrated with all product offerings aboard the ship. Takes advantage of cross promotion opportunities.
- Responsible for liaising with other department heads to create synergy to provide the best overall product and resultant ratings and maximize revenue.
- Responsible for guiding his/her team to develop activity programming sensitive to guest demographics and itinerary fluctuations.
- Prepares a Cruise Director’s Report (in memo form) at the conclusion of each voyage and sends the report via email to shoreside.
- Ensures that the accounts, records, and reports for which he/she is responsible are completed and submitted to shore side on a timely basis.
- Responsible for the training and counseling of all the staff under his/her supervision.
- Communicates to guests the landing procedure for each port.
- At the Master’s request, assists at entertainment functions.
- Responsible for the effective administration of the ordering and distribution of guest gifts and prizes.
- Provides the proper promotion of Bingo to achieve and/or exceed revenue targets.
- Ensures that Bingo is entertaining to the guests and conforms to the format and controls as outlined by the company.
- Monitors production shows, variety shows, musicians, lectures, and activities to gain a firm awareness of each, to include strengths, as well as areas that may need further attention for improvement.
- Monitors all technical areas within his/her department through continued communication with all technical sub-department managers, i.e., AV Manager, Broadcast Manager etc.
- Maintains continued awareness of any technical deficiencies or problems that may exist in the technical sub-department.
- Responsible for the care and maintenance of all equipment in his/her care, including the library books, movies, DVDs, karaoke CD+Gs, CDs, etc.
- Ensures that guests receive high-quality, effectively scheduled, prompt and well-presented entertainment.
- Ensures that guests are given the pleasant attention and effective service expected of his/her team. These duties and services are to be carried out in accordance with brand standards.
- Furnishes, at the request of the Hotel Director, budget proposals covering the accounts for which he/she is responsible. Maintains a thorough record of all expenditures and base requirements.
- Submits Requisition lists to the Hotel Director for approval.
- Assures that volume levels throughout the vessel are at an acceptable level. This includes the public address system, background music throughout the ship, orchestra and band amplification, and the entertainer’s/production cast’s amplification during a performance.
- Notifies the entertainers, whether resident ship staff or outside contracted entertainers, verbally or in writing, the company policy for the dress code and the use of relative lounges and facilities on all ships.
- Upon signing off for transfer or vacation, the Cruise Director is required to complete a performance evaluation on all crewmembers within the Cruise Director’s division. However, a Cruise Director must have worked with the crewmember for a minimum of six weeks before evaluating him/her.
- Upon signing off for transfer or vacation, provides an offical thorough, written hand over report to the incoming Cruise Director.
- Prepares an evaluation when a crewmember disembarks for vacation or is transferred. Again, the stipulation is that the Cruise Director must have worked with the crewmember for a minimum of six weeks.
- Understands the Safety & Quality Management Program, and his/her responsibilities in the Safety Organization according to the Emergency Plan and Station Bill. Must be available, capable, and ready to act in the event of an emergency.
- Aware of and/or acquires the necessary knowledge to comply with the ship’s standard operation, to assist guests and crewmembers with inquiries.
- Attends meetings, training activities, courses and all other work-related activities as required.
- Shipboard employees will be required to perform any other job-related duties assigned by their supervisor or management.
- Responsible for effectively managing the time and attendance of their own, direct reports and whole teams’ work and rest hours in accord with MLC regulations and company procedures.
Education/Experience/Qualifications:
- Minimum of five years’ experience in an upscale hotel, resort, cruise ship, entertainment or recreational industry (shipboard experience preferred).
- Master of Ceremony or professional entertainment experience and skills required.
- Bachelor’s degree in hospitality management, business administration or related field from an accredited college or university or the international equivalent preferred.
- One year Marketing experience
- Very strong management skills in a multicultural and dynamic environment.
- Excellent communication, problem solving, decision making, and interpersonal skills.
- Superior customer service, team building and conflict resolution skills.
- Strong planning, coaching, organizing, staffing, controlling, and evaluating skills.
- Intermediate computer software skills required.
- Possess a good understanding of numbering flow “Debits/Credits”, adjusting entries and corrections.
- Stage performance ability strongly preferred
