​Responsibilities
The Hotel Steward is responsible for ensuring a clean, orderly, and well‐maintained environment​ through routine cleaning, restroom servicing, and upkeep of equipment and storage areas. The role supports guest satisfaction by providing assistance, handling luggage, and completing guest​ service tasks as needed. Additional duties include reporting damages, supporting special events, attending daily briefings, and adhering to all USPH, BPCL, safety, and environmental standards.​ Employees may be assigned other responsibilities based on operational needs

Essential Functions:

  • Cleaning & Maintenance
  • Shampoo and vacuum carpets, upholstery, and furniture as required.
  • Wash windows, walls, ceilings, and other surfaces as needed.
  • Dust all assigned work areas daily and clean glass doors.
  • Empty litter bins and ash urns, ensuring all areas remain clean and orderly.
  • Service restrooms, maintaining cleanliness, sanitation, and proper supplies.
  • Polish brass, handrails, and fixtures as necessary.
  • Maintain all cleaning equipment in good working condition.
  • Keep chemical and cleaning storage areas clean, secure, and well organized.

Guest Service

  • Provide assistance to guests whenever possible, ensuring a high level of service.
  • Fulfill guest requests in the absence of the room steward/stewardess, including​ make‐up and turn‐down service.
  • Collect and deliver guest luggage to and from designated decks.

Operational Support

  • Report any loss or damage to linen, furniture, fixtures, or equipment.
  • Assist with parties, weddings, stateroom deliveries, and other departmental​ assignments as directed.
  • Attend daily pre‐ and post‐shift briefings.
  • Secure lockers and accurately sign in/out on time sheets.

Compliance & Safety

  • Follow and uphold all standards and guidelines recommended by USPH and​ BPCL Hotel Operations.
  • Be familiar with the Safety and Environmental Protection Policy and execute all​ procedures relevant to the position.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisors or management.

Qualifications:
• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Ability to understand and follow housekeeping procedures, safety standards, and operational guidelines.
• Physically able to perform repetitive tasks, lift moderate weights, and work on feet for extended periods.
• Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including weekends, holidays, and varying shifts.
Experience:
• Previous experience in housekeeping, hospitality, or custodial services preferred but notrequired.
• ​ Please note that prior shipboard experience is required for this position. Candidates must hold a valid STCW, medical certificate, passport, and visa. Additionally, a minimum of 3 appraisals is required.
• Familiarity with cleaning chemicals, sanitation procedures, and basic maintenance practices is beneficial.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Strong understanding of cleaning techniques, sanitation practices, and the use of housekeeping equipment.
• Knowledge of safety, environmental, and health standards, including USPH guidelines (or willingness to learn).
• Excellent customer service skills with the ability to interact professionally and courteously with guests.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and also contribute effectively as part of a team.
• Strong attention to detail, time‐management skills, and the ability to prioritize tasks in a fast‐paced environment.
• Reliable, self‐motivated, and able to maintain professionalism and confidentiality at all times.
• Ability to understand instructions and communicate effectively in English.
Language Requirements:
• Ability to speak English clearly, distinctly and cordially with guests and crew.
• Ability to understand instructions given in English during emergency life saving procedures and drills.
• Ability to read and write English in order to understand and interpret written procedures. This includes the ability to give and receive instructions in written and verbal forms and to effectively present information and respond to questions from guests, supervisors and co-workers.

• Ability to speak additional languages such as Spanish, French or German preferred.
Physical Requirements:
• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to touch, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear; and taste or smell. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
• All shipboard employees must be physically able to participate in emergency life saving procedures and drills. Full use and range of arms and legs as well as full visual, verbal and hearing abilities are required to receive and give instructions in the event of an emergency including the lowering of lifeboats.
