IT Officer Expedition Vessel

We are currently seeking an experienced Electro-Technical Officer (ETO) with strong IT capability to join a modern expedition vessel.

This role is responsible for the operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of all electrical, electronic, and IT systems onboard, ensuring safe, reliable, and efficient vessel operations.

Key Responsibilities

Electrical & Electronic Systems

Maintain and troubleshoot vessel electrical and electronic equipment in line with class and flag requirements
Support bridge, engine room, and hotel systems as required
Ensure all work is carried out in compliance with safety and operational procedures

IT Systems & Infrastructure

Manage onboard IT systems including servers, workstations, and software platforms
Maintain vessel network infrastructure (Wi-Fi, switches, access points, cabling)
Ensure consistent performance of operational and guest-facing systems

Communications Systems

Maintain satellite communications (VSAT, 4G, Iridium, etc.)
Support VoIP/PBX systems and onboard telecommunication networks

Guest & Crew IT Support

Provide technical support to crew and guests for IT-related issues
Assist with troubleshooting of end-user devices and connectivity problems

Security & Data Management

Implement and monitor cybersecurity measures
Ensure regular backups and integrity of onboard data systems

Specialist Systems Oversight

Maintain and support:
CCTV and electronic access control systems
IPTV and entertainment systems
POS systems and operational computers (bridge/engine-specific)
Printers and peripheral devices

Shore-Based Coordination

Liaise with shoreside technical and IT teams for support, reporting, and system updates


Requirements


Valid Electro-Technical Officer (ETO) Certificate of Competency (CoC) in accordance with STCW
Proven experience sailing as ETO or in a similar capacity onboard vessels
Strong knowledge of electrical, electronic, and IT/network systems
Experience with satellite communications and vessel IT infrastructure preferred
Good troubleshooting and fault-finding capability
Ability to work independently in a dynamic shipboard environment
Fluent in English (written and spoken)
Preferred Experience
Previous experience on expedition or passenger vessels
Exposure to hotel systems, IPTV, and guest-facing technologies
Familiarity with modern integrated vessel systems

Work Experience Requirements

All applicants must have previous experience in working on a Cruise Ship.

Language Requirements

Good knowledge of the English language is required.
