We are currently seeking an experienced Chief Electrician to join a modern expedition vessel with immediate mobilisation. This is a senior onboard role responsible for the safe operation, maintenance, and reliability of all electrical systems, supporting both marine operations and hotel services in a remote and demanding environment.
This position offers a 3-month on / 3-month off rotation, providing long-term stability for the right candidate.
Key Responsibilities
Report directly to the Chief Engineer and work closely with the Staff Chief Engineer to ensure seamless engineering operations.
Take full responsibility for the vessel’s main electrical power generation and distribution systems, ensuring continuous and safe operation.
Lead and manage the onboard Electrical Team, ensuring all work is carried out to high technical and safety standards.
Oversee maintenance and repair of electrical systems and switchboards across the Engine Room (ER), Engine Control Room (ECR), and accommodation areas.
Ensure operational readiness and maintenance of all emergency electrical systems, including emergency generators, UPS systems, and batteries.
Maintain and troubleshoot bridge electrical and electronic equipment, supporting navigation and communication systems critical for expedition operations.
Execute and monitor planned maintenance schedules, ensuring compliance with manufacturer guidelines and company procedures.
Maintain accurate technical records, reports, and documentation for all electrical systems.
Diagnose and resolve faults efficiently to minimise downtime, particularly in remote expedition environments.
Ensure full compliance with SOLAS, class requirements, and company SMS procedures.
Requirements
Valid Electro-Technical Officer (ETO) Certificate of Competency (CoC) or equivalent.
Previous experience sailing as Chief Electrician or Senior ETO onboard passenger vessels, cruise, or expedition vessels preferred.
Strong knowledge of marine electrical systems, automation, and power management systems.
Experience with high-voltage systems is highly desirable.
Proven ability to lead and manage a small technical team onboard.
Experience working in remote or expedition environments is advantageous.
Familiarity with planned maintenance systems (PMS).
Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
Good command of English, both written and spoken.
