Job description:

Second Engineering officer of Watch is to carry out all his below listed duties in compliance with all international & company rules, regulations at all times. He shall be familiar & follow the company’s safety management system, including specific responsibilities in the safety organization according to the emergency plan.

 

He shall be responsible for safety & operation of his assigned watch & the crew. He shall report 15 minutes prior to his watch along with his team & take a complete round and then take over the watch. He shall not leave ECR at anytime during the watch; should any operational problems occur with the equipment watch 3 engineer can relive him but for not more than 15minutes. Furthermore if required he can call Day service team for assistance.

 

The Second Engineer will work closely with the First Engineer when scheduling maintenance works on the equipment assigned, if additional manpower is needed.

 

Engineering watch shall not carry out any maintenance during the watch. All maintenance is to be carried-out after the watch & reported in Amos. He shall be responsible for reporting and updating the Amos for his related duties. Furthermore, he shall ensure that there are no overdue work orders at any time.

 

He shall report any defect or abnormality to the staff chief engineer or Chief Engineer for any defect or abnormalities.

 

He shall report & document all maintenance carried out in Company’s approved planned maintenance system i.e. AMOS. He shall ensure that AMOS is the maintained up to date with minimum overdue work-orders as per company’s policy. He shall ensure organisation, stowage of spares and consumables well in advance together with the storekeeper in compliance with company’s stock control requirement. Furthermore, he shall provide daily / weekly or monthly reports on chief engineer’s request.

 

He shall lead the officers and ratings assigned to his area of responsibility in executing maintenance and repairs; ensuring that the officers and ratings assigned to his area of responsibility are familiar with the Company's Management System relevant to their duties and responsibilities; thus motivating officers and ratings in executing their duties according to the Company's Management System.

 

He shall be responsible for updating & maintaining the working hours for crew and officers assigned to his area of responsibility. He shall ensure that none of his assigned crew / officer is in violation of Stcw / MLC regulations.

 

He shall ensure that a robust Safety, Health, Environmental & Energy awareness is encouraged and maintained. Furthermore, he shall report direct to chief engineer occurrence that could either directly or indirectly lead to an adverse effect on Quality, safety, health, Environment, Security operational capabilities or reliability of the vessel.

Furthermore to above duties he shall carry out any other duties deemed necessary by the Chief Engineer & staff Chief Engineer.
