Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

  • One of the Carpenters will be appointed as a Chief Carpenter.
  • Will have training in Fire Fighting, Safety matters and Damage Control.
  • Familiar with the responsibilities in the Safety Organization according to the Emergency Plan and Station Bill.
  • The Chief Carpenter will be the Work Leader for the other Carpenters, and delegate jobs and responsibilities to them.
  • Will participate in the daily activities of the deck operation and be available if any emergency, which requires their participation, occurs.
  • Will assist in upkeep of the ships Key Cards, depending on what system key the ship has. They will also make metal keys when needed.
  • Responsible for the Potable water filling equipment, and that this equipment is being properly stored and used in accordance with IMS /
  • Public Health Requirement.
  • Familiar with IMS / Public Health rules pertaining to potable water filling and storing.
  • The Chief Carpenter will be responsible for but not limited to: keep the Staff Captain/Chief Officer updated on which projects / jobs are being

carried out around the ship, full responsibility for the carpenter shop, the equipment and the inventory of equipment and consumables.
Participate in educating and guiding other, less experienced assistant Carpenters and other members of the Deck crew. Shall be
implemented in, and assist the Storekeeper in keeping the planned maintenance system updated and maintained for the carpenter's
inventory and maintenance

and client or location specific policies

  • Actively promotes a safe working environment and use of established systems (STOP cards etc.) as needed


Preferred Qualifications:

  • VISA C1D 
  • Holds appropriate licenses and certificates as required by regulations.
  • Has full knowledge and understanding of all aspects of the company’s IMS related to his/her position.
  • Have a full knowledge and understanding of his/her emergency duties and the Safety Organization according to the Emergency Plan and Station Bill.
  • Needs to be up to date with all necessary certifications, including but not limited to STCW requirements, MLC requirements, specifically required certifications
  • Must be in possession of valid, MLC compliant medical certificate
  • Has a good command of English language
