Sanitation Engineer - Large Cruise Vessel

We are currently seeking an experienced Sanitation Engineer to join a large passenger cruise vessel.

The Sanitation Engineer is responsible for the safe, reliable and compliant operation and maintenance of the vessel’s sanitation, wastewater and associated environmental systems. The role works closely with the Technical Department to ensure all equipment is maintained to the required operational, environmental and hygiene standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Operate, maintain and troubleshoot the vessel’s sewage and wastewater treatment systems
• Maintain vacuum toilet and sanitary systems throughout guest, crew and technical areas
• Monitor and maintain grey water and black water collection, transfer and treatment systems
• Maintain pumps, valves, piping, tanks and associated sanitation equipment
• Carry out planned and corrective maintenance in accordance with the vessel’s Planned Maintenance System (PMS)
• Identify faults and carry out repairs to sanitation and wastewater equipment
• Monitor treatment plant performance and ensure systems remain within required operating parameters
• Conduct routine inspections, testing and preventative maintenance
• Maintain accurate technical and environmental records
• Support management of potable and technical water systems where assigned
• Assist with maintenance of freshwater generation and distribution systems where required
• Maintain appropriate spare parts and consumables for sanitation equipment
• Support dry dock, overhaul and external service work relating to assigned systems
• Work closely with engineering, hotel and other onboard departments to resolve sanitation-related technical issues
• Ensure operations comply with MARPOL, environmental, health, safety and company requirements
• Immediately report equipment failures, environmental concerns or potential non-compliance to the appropriate senior officer

Essential Requirements

Candidates must meet the following criteria:

• Previous experience as a Sanitation Engineer or in a comparable technical position aboard cruise ships
• Strong hands-on experience with marine sewage and wastewater treatment systems
• Experience with vacuum toilet systems
• Good knowledge of pumps, valves, piping systems and associated mechanical equipment
• Experience with grey water and black water treatment and handling systems
• Good understanding of marine environmental and pollution-prevention requirements
• Knowledge of MARPOL requirements relevant to shipboard wastewater and sanitation operations
• Ability to troubleshoot mechanical, electrical and control-related faults within sanitation systems
• Experience working with Planned Maintenance Systems
• Relevant marine engineering, mechanical or technical qualification
• Valid STCW certification appropriate to the position
• Good spoken and written English
• Valid US Visa
