We are currently seeking an experienced Reefer Engineer to join a large cruise vessel.

Reporting to the Facility Manager and AC Engineer, the Reefer Engineer will be responsible for the safe and reliable operation, maintenance and repair of the vessel’s refrigeration, air-conditioning and ventilation systems. The position will also supervise and support the Assistant Reefer team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain and repair refrigeration, air-conditioning and ventilation systems
  • Maintain chillers, heat exchangers, compressors, condensers, pumps, piping and associated valves
  • Maintain provision refrigeration systems, cold rooms and refrigeration equipment
  • Service cabin thermostats, actuators, air-handling units and ventilation ducting
  • Maintain hotel refrigeration equipment, including fridges, ice machines, ice-cream machines and undercounter units
  • Inspect and maintain fire and ventilation dampers
  • Plan and complete preventative maintenance, voyage repairs and emergency repairs
  • Supervise and train Assistant Reefers and other assigned crew
  • Maintain accurate PMS records, refrigeration inventories, environmental logs and temperature records
  • Ensure all equipment complies with VSP/USPH and applicable environmental regulations
  • Keep the Facility Manager and AC Engineer updated on equipment condition and outstanding technical issues
  • Assume responsibility for the refrigeration division in the absence of the AC Engineer

Candidate Requirements

  • Relevant Reefer Engineer licence or qualification
  • EPA refrigerant-handling certification and F-Gas leak-testing certification
  • Valid STCW certification, including Advanced Fire Fighting
  • Previous experience maintaining refrigeration and HVAC systems aboard cruise or passenger vessels
  • Good knowledge of provision refrigeration, cold rooms, compressors, chillers and hotel refrigeration equipment
  • Familiarity with VSP/USPH standards and environmental requirements
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings, ship plans and equipment manuals
  • Experience planning maintenance, setting priorities and resolving technical problems independently
  • Previous supervisory experience and the ability to train junior team members
  • Excellent spoken and written English
  • Strong professional ethics and a safety-focused approach

Previous cruise-ship experience is strongly preferred.
