3rd Officer - Cruise

Third Officer – Deck Department
Reports to: Chief Officer / Staff Captain

Position Overview:

The Third Officer is a licensed watchkeeping officer responsible for safe navigation, regulatory compliance, and supporting deck operations onboard a cruise vessel. The role requires strong seamanship, situational awareness, and effective teamwork.

Key Responsibilities:

Stand navigational watches as Officer of the Watch (OOW).

Conduct passage planning, position fixing, and course monitoring using electronic and traditional navigation systems.

Maintain a proper lookout and comply with COLREGS, SOLAS, MARPOL, STCW, and company procedures.

Support the maintenance and operation of lifesaving and firefighting equipment.

Perform assigned emergency duties and participate in drills and training.

Assist with mooring, anchoring, deck maintenance, and safety operations.

Supervise deck ratings during assigned maintenance tasks.

Maintain accurate navigation logs, records, and reports.

Support inspections, audits, and the Safety Management System (SMS).

Apply Bridge Resource Management (BRM) principles and promote effective bridge teamwork.

Qualifications & Requirements:

STCW-compliant OOW Unlimited Certificate.

Valid ENG1 or equivalent seafarer medical certificate.

Required flag-state certifications, including GMDSS, PSCRB, AFF and PFRB, as applicable.

Passenger or cruise vessel experience preferred.

Strong English communication skills; additional languages are an advantage.
