Main Function

Mess Attendant is responsible for providing efficient and hygienic meal service in the crew dining areas onboard, ensuring that food and beverages are properly presented, available and served according to company standards.

Maintains a clean, organized and safe dining environment, assists with buffet and beverage service, handles food and materials, supports dishwashing and storage areas, and contributes to a positive dining experience for crew members and Guests.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience in food and beverage service, catering, restaurant, hotel or similar environment is preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of food hygiene, sanitation and safe food handling procedures.
  • Ability to maintain high standards of cleanliness and organization in busy dining areas.
  • Ability to work efficiently as part of a multicultural team.
  • Good physical stamina and ability to remain active throughout the working shift.
  • Ability to handle food, beverages, equipment and materials carefully and efficiently.
  • Basic English communication skills sufficient to understand work instructions and communicate with supervisors and colleagues.
  • Knowledge of an additional language such as Italian, French, German, Spanish, Portuguese or Mandarin is an advantage.
  • Ability to follow MSC safety, sanitation and environmental procedures.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Prepares and maintains the Crew Mess and assigned dining areas according to MSC cleanliness, hygiene and sanitation standards.
  2. Refills buffet lines and beverage stations, ensuring that sufficient food, beverages and supplies are available during service.
  3. Cleans and sanitizes tables, counters, equipment, utensils and other dining areas throughout the service.
  4. Assists with the delivery of food and beverages to the Crew Mess and other assigned dining locations.
  5. Collects, transports and organizes dishes, glassware, utensils and other materials between the dining area, dishwashing area and Galley.
  6. Maintains dishwashing areas, storage areas and assigned workstations clean, safe and well organized.
  7. Handles food, equipment and supplies carefully to minimize waste, breakage, loss and spoilage.
  8. Sorts and disposes of garbage according to company environmental and waste-management procedures.
  9. Loads, transports and delivers orders and materials accurately and safely to the designated food service areas.
  10. Monitors food temperatures and reports any concerns regarding food quality, availability or safety to the appropriate Supervisor or Galley team.
  11. Assists with Crew and Guest requests, including dietary requirements, and communicates relevant information to the appropriate team members.
  12. Performs Buffet Attendant duties when required and according to Supervisor's instructions.
  13. Supports the training of new Mess Attendants and participates in team meetings and training activities.
  14. Follows all MSC Health, Safety, Sanitation and Environmental procedures and maintains a safe and orderly working environment.
