Purser/Activities Mates

Sail Windjammer is seeking a Purser/Activities Mate for our historic SV Mandalay, which cruises year round in the Caribbean for one week cruises carrying appx 58 passengers and two dozen crew.

The Purser/Activities mate contract is flexible, but is generally 4-6 months. Compensation is a monthly salary, tips, sales commission on onboard merchandise & shore excursions, flight allowance, and paid vacation time & bonus eligibility upon contract completion.

The Purser/Activities Mate reports to the Captain onboard, and directly to company owners on shore. Applicants must have STCW training certificates upon applying, we have an immediate opening for this position.

Duties include:

• Preparing immigration and custom documents for clearance at each port.
• Maintaining crew records.
• Serving as medical officer onboard. (first aid training recommended)
• Lead customer service onboard and manage onboard charge to cabin accounts.
• Sell shore excursions, snorkel gear and merchandise to passengers.
• Lead onboard games, programs and activities.

Sail Windjammer's goal to provide passengers with an authentic Caribbean 'barefoot' style sailing adventure, visiting smaller off the beaten path islands that the larger ships cannot get to. The atmosphere onboard is relaxed, casual and fun with a very personalized smaller group style of travel. The ideal candidate will have experience in hospitality, travel, and/or tourism with a sense of adventure.
