Currently seeking Laundry Masters for a major Cruise line. Must have a good command of English and able to set schedules as well as take control of a team of laundry assistants. It's a 10 month contract with two months off. Experience in laundry and dry cleaning is a must. This job requires you to be a excellent team leader and to be able to write up reports and make schedules.

Laundry Management skill sets and abilities include:

  • Ability to manage, train and supervise personnel in a hands-on production environment;
  • Knowledge of direct work processes and flows (clean-to-soil and separation of goods);
  • Prepare time sheets, productivity logs and daily work schedules;
  • Process orders for clean linen, guest valet and related billing requirements;
  • Ability to satisfy customer requirements and meet production quotas on a daily basis,Identify and troubleshoot equipment problems;
  • Determine daily linen and other supply requirements
  • Monitor inventories of supplies such as linen and wash chemicals.
  • Basic working knowledge of computers is required as are effective communication and leadership skills.
  • Experience in operating major laundry equipment including: tunnel washer (CBW-continuous batch wash system); flat work ironer (FWI); conventional washers and dryers.
  • Proper loading and unloading of goods, sequencing of goods through a CBW, feeding of the FWI;
  • Ability to identify and fix basic linen quality issues such as damp linen, stains, discoloration, re-wash, and the like.
  • Understanding of fundamental wash processes: time, temperature, chemistry and mechanical action.
  • Ability to implement and monitor productivity standards by employee and machine: pounds per operator hour; pieces per operator or team of operators.
  • Understand basic washroom chemistry: titration, pH level, use of detergent, bleach, sour, etc.
  • Ability to oversee a physical linen inventory count and to keep records of linen injections, discards and “mysterious” losses (ie-trashed, theft, hoarding, abuse, etc.).
  • Safety compliance experience, reporting of injuries, first aid, eye-wash stations, proper chemical storage and labeling, MSDS Manual, fire extinguishers, evacuation and training.
  • Ability to devise a schedule to meet customer demands during a cruise and in synch with projected occupancy.
  • Understands sorting classifications: terry, flat goods, F&B items, light soil, re-wash, stain, etc.
  • Knowledge of adequate utilities supplies: flat work ironer steam and temperature requirements, dry and wash temperatures and times,
  • Ability to keep and interpret production records, clean vs. soil weights, re-wash %,
  • Basic understanding of textile care and specifications, cotton, polyester blends, thread counts, reading of labels, sizing and weight, etc
  • Ability to understand and monitor a departmental budget.
