Position Summary:
 
A Case Manager provides support to assigned ships/fleet/designated countries with coordination of medical care for crew requiring medical shoreside. Coordination of care with medical providers and port agents worldwide for crew landed due to medical emergencies or acute medical care. Support and assist ship medical doctors/nurses with decisions regarding care management plan for crew requiring extensive medical treatment ashore.

Career Snapshot:

  • Communication/Coordination with shipboard medical staff of assigned vessels on decisions regarding care management plan of ill/injured crew. Works scheduled weekends and remotely to support medical sign-offs.
  •  Communication/Coordination with shoreside medical providers of assigned countries on decisions regarding care management plan of ill/injured crew.
  •  Management of medical care/benefits for ill/injured crew in ports of call via local port agent and/or medical providers.
  •  Organize medical sign-off secure all medical records and notification of care management plan in treating location.
  •  Communication with ill/injured crewmember regarding medical benefits and treatment plan. Notify appropriate P&I Club of high exposure medical cases near or exceeding deductible.
  •  Assign case financial reserves of projected cost of care.
  •  Meet with Home Country case manager to determine treatment location most appropriate on a case-by-case basis.
  •  Meet with Team Leader on complex medical cases.
  •  Visit crew at local hotels/hospitals provide support and arrange specialized accommodations if required.
  •  Attend/Participate in regularly scheduled case review meetings. Preparation/Review of reports on active cases.
  •  Maintain expertise of medical resources available in port of calls where assigned ships visit and/or designated countries.
  •  Attend depositions or trials as required.

Requirements:

  • A minimum of five years experience in handling personal injury, medical case management, workers compensations and/or Jones Act, Maintenance and Cure cases in a large corporate environment.

Preferences:

  • Certified Case Manager Certificate, LPN, Licensed Workers Compensation Adjuster is preferred.
