Position Summary:

Manages the shipboard youth recreational, edutainment, entertainment and social programs geared for ages 6 months -17 years.   Mentors, develops and provides on-the-job training to his/her staff to strengthen their current performance and preparation for future advancement. In addition, you will have the opportunity to travel the world while working for a top global employer of choice.

  • Monitors and supervises the job performance of the Youth Counselors.
  • Monitors the assignment of duties and responsibilities of his/her staff. Observes and evaluates them and their work procedures to ensure quality standards and service are met.
  • Monitor all Youth Program related budgets.
  • People management responsibilities to ensure optimal performance of the function.

Qualifications

Minimum hiring, language and physical requirements to perform the job.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in education, recreation or related field from an accredited university or college or the international equivalent.
  • Five to seven years of experience managing recreational activities of large groups of youth, ages 3-17 years
  • Experience working in school sponsored youth groups, YMCS, camps or similar positions preferred. Infant and child CPR certification and lifesaving certification from the American Red Cross or similar certifying organization preferred
  • Ability to speak English clearly, Mandarin required. Cantonese a plus. Ability to communicate distinctly and cordially with guests.
  • Working knowledge of computers, internet access, and the ability to navigate within a variety software packages such as Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • All international applicants must have the ability to obtain C1/D visa (and other relevant visas) when applicable
  • Must meet all physical requirements, including the ability to participate in emergency life-saving drills and required training
  • Ability to mediate, diffuse and/or resolve problems and negotiate resolutions.
  • Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal service including needs assessment, problem resolution and achievement of quality service standards.
  • Knowledge of policies and practices involved in the human resources function.
  • Ability to manage the international staff in a positive and productive manner by motivating, developing and managing employees as they work.
  • Ability to utilize and administer the disciplinary action process through coaching and counseling to improve performance or terminate employment.
  • Ability to work positively and cooperatively in a diverse team environment to meet overall established time frames for the entire youth recreation operation.
  • Ability to communicate tactfully with department heads, coworkers and other shipboard employees to resolve problems and negotiate resolutions.

Preferences:

  • Ability to speak, read and write multiple languages is a plus, English & Mandarin Required.
  • Previous Cruise ship experience
  • Working knowledge of computers, internet access, and the ability to navigate within a variety software packages such as Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
