Reporting 

  • The Cabin Steward/ess reports to the Head Steward regarding vessel operations onboard pertinent to the department.

Direct Reports

  • Assistant Cabin Steward/ess (if applicable).

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the overall cleanliness and maintenance of all passenger cabins and bathrooms, located in his/her assigned section of the vessel.
  • Maintain cabins and bathrooms as per company policies and guidelines; including the standard procedure for making the beds, specific linens to be included on the beds, the finished visual look, vacuuming, dusting, and the standards for the overall cleaning and maintaining of the cabins and bathrooms. If there are two or more beds in the cabin, they should look identical after being made up.
  • Ensure that you follow the proper company standard, with regard to the items and the arrangement of the items to be placed on the vanity, and table (i.e. cabin folder, glasses, etc.).
  • Ensure the proper standard is followed, with regard to the number and arrangement of towels, bath mat, glasses, and amenities in the bathrooms. 
  • Check the bathroom amenities on a daily basis and ensure the dispensers are labeled properly, work properly, the nozzle on each is not clogged, and that all amenity dispensers are always full.
  • Ensure closets are filled and arranged as per company policy, and that they can be opened and closed properly.
  • Ensure all lights, TV, DVD Player, and telephone are working properly.
  • Report any issues immediately to your supervisor, for a quick resolution. 
  • Follow up to ensure any corrective actions have been taken to resolution.
  • Deliver guest laundry to the laundryman and ensure it is cleaned and returned promptly.
  • Achieve passenger comment rating to meet or exceed targets. Guest comments to be reviewed with Head Steward, for respective areas and take appropriate follow up action, if required.
  • Comply with public health regulations (USPH) in order to meet sanitary standards.
  • Report to the Head Steward immediately any accidents, or cases of illness, especially any of gastrointestinal nature.
  • Participate in the Norovirus protection plan protocol, if needed.
  • Conduct daily walk through your assigned area, and ensure cabins and corridors are cleaned according to company standards.
  • Maintain and stock your housekeeping cart to ensure you have adequate equipment, and supplies.
  • Submit request for all HK supplies as needed to the Head Steward. 
  • Ensure that all technical deficiencies or issues related to your cabins, bathrooms, and corridor are reported and corrected in a timely manner and ensure that proper information is forwarded to your superior, in order to log it correctly.  
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date recordkeeping, to include but not limited to: Guest cabin Checklist, and all sanitation related reports or logs as required.
  • Assist with baggage handling upon embarkation and disembarkation. Assist with delivering baggage to guest cabins.
  • Upon embarkation, give a brief, but thorough orientation of the cabin and bathroom to the guest(s), as per company policy.
  • Maintain a clean and safe workplace, with emphasis on employee health, safety procedures, and fire/chemical safety. Ensure that all chemicals in your department are properly used and stored according to company policy and MSDS.
  • Demonstrate professionalism and be a good role model. Always follow the company’s Hospitality Basics.
  • Always maintain the highest standard, according to company policy, with regard to personal appearance, uniform dress, personal hygiene, and the usage of proper verbal etiquette.
  • Interact with the guests and employees in positive, friendly and courteous manner.
  • Understand the job duty and responsibilities.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Head Steward.

Work Experience Requirements

All applicants must have previous experience in working on a Cruise Ship, in a 4/5* Hotel or in an Upscale Restaurant.

Language Requirements

Good knowledge of the English language is required.
