Helmsman (river cruise ship)

Responsibilities

Managing the ship in cooperation with the 2nd Captain, according to existing law and regulations. Duties to include:
- Keeping of the ship’s log book and registers of service
- Keeping of the guard journal and supervision of the Night Auditor
- Providing basic and advanced training to Sailors
- Instructing the crew about the station bill and their respective individual tasks
- Performing regular checks of safety equipment, including:
  - Life vests
  - Fire extinguishers
  - Hoses
  - Hatches
  - Life boats
  - Emergency exits
Monitoring the gangway and lighting at night
Assigning nautical personnel for guard duty when the ship is docked and guests are on board
Assigning Sailors and Deckhands for ship’s maintenance (cleanliness and order)
Controlling all of the assigned tasks
Ordering of nautical materials
Managing of waste disposal and supply of drinking water
Displaying a friendly and courteous attitude towards all guests and crewmembers

Written and spoken English & German
Several years of work experience in a similar position within the shipping industry

All applicants must have previous experience in working on a Cruise Ship, in a 4/5* Hotel or in an Upscale Restaurant.

Good knowledge of the English language is required.
