An excellent opportunity has arisen for an established professional Mechanical Engineer of proven ability to join the consultancy team within a leading Maritime Engineering Consultancy.

My client is well established within the Offshore and Marine markets and the successful Mechanical Engineer will have an existing work load to include a diverse range of projects collaborating with other members of the team. Exposure to working within a consultancy, classification society or for an operator is desirable.

This Mechanical Engineers opportunity includes a focus on designing lifting equipment and mechanical handling solutions for offshore and marine projects. This could see design work related to new design, repair, modification and consultancy work for mechanical handling equipment. Along with extensive interaction with the internal engineering team to integrate with heavy lift and transportation projects for a diverse range of clients and third parties.

Due to the nature of the intended operation of the mechanical systems this role will be working with/on the successful mechanical design engineer will also need to have a strong practical understanding of structural design and FE analyses.

The position will typically entail the following tasks:

  • Mechanical Design 
  • Mechanical Systems arrangement
  • Structural design and analyses of components of lifting/mechanical handling equipment
  • Client facing consultancy
  • Heavy Lift projects
  • Hydraulics
  • Temporary Steel Structure
  • Design of lifting arrangements and rigging studies
  • On site supervision of project cargo load-out, sea-fastening, and transportation.
  • Transport and access studies

To be successful in this role you will need the following skills and background:

  • Degree educated in Mechanical Engineering or Structural Engineering
  • Knowledge of Heavy lift, abnormal loads, Mechanical Handling equipment
  • Foundation Understanding of Lift Equipment and Hydraulics
  • Happy to live and work in Glasgow

This position is based in Glasgow and will include national and international travel on occasion.
