We are currently seeking on behalf of the world’s biggest cruise lines including Carnival, Royal Caribbean and Celebrity Cruises for qualified Musicians for their Theatre Orchestras and also for Stand Alone Horn Trio's. This is a great opportunity for any musician who wishes to travel to some of world’s most exciting destinations and gaining valuable life and work experience. contracts are generally 5 to 6 months long and generally automatically renewed after a 6-8 week vacation
Depending on the Cruise Line the position varies:
Primary duties and requirements for the regular orchestra musicians include:
- Playing Production Shows and backing various Guest Entertainers in the ships Main Theatre.
- Performing appropriate dance music and nightclub cabaret performances Big band concerts Possibly take part in Jazz sets
- Must be an EXCELLENT SIGHT READER and have the ability to improvise and transpose music
- Strong instrumental performance background in jazz and/or classical music and in a professional musical setting
- Knowledge of varied styles, rhythms, tempos and genres of music from the last century to the present including Swing, Blues, Funk, Jazz R&B etc
- Music instruments and equipment must be kept in a good condition
- Plays from memory or by reading music, improvises and transposes music as needed
- Must be able to solo, following changes
Details to be part of the Horn Trio:
- The ability to extend beyond a performer into an entertainer.
- Musical proficiency in tone, articulation, dynamics, and phrasing comparable to University-level education or higher.
- Advanced improvisational skills as a musician.
- Advanced sight reading and transposition skills.
- Ability and previous experience operating loopers, harmonizers, and programs such as Ableton Live.
- Knowledge of Top 40 music styles from the 1960s through today.
- Applicable experience in wedding/bar bands, alongside DJs, pit bands and similar commercial music ensembles.
- Ability to quickly and effortlessly memorize music under tight timelines.
For both roles, the following is required:
- Must not have a criminal record
- Must speak good English
- Flugel horns are required for trumpet players
- Mutes are normally needed for brass players
- Saxophone players must have the ability to play both Alto and Tenor Sax, the clarinet and flute
- Guitarists need to provide and demonstrate the ability to use effects such as distortion Wash pedal, chorus, reverb, etc
- Drummers are required to provide drumsticks, brushes and bass pedals. Cymbals are provided to drummers, however personal preference is optional
