Authority and Interrelation

  • Hotel engineer under the administration of the engine department.
  • Reports to the chief engineer for all relevant operational and maintenance issues.
  • Reports to the Master or Staff Captain on all deck equipment issues.
  • Authorised to supervise staff under his charge and take all immediate measures within the scope of the position to operate and maintain the reefer and air conditioning plant in a safe and efficient manner.

Responsibility (including but not limited to)

  • Understand and abide by all relevant documentation, regulations, guidelines and procedures. Sign copies as instructed by the superior officer to indicate understanding of the same.
  • Report any undesired events, unsafe practices or near accidents observed to the superior officer/s and attempt to rectify them if safely possible.
  • Attend to the safe and efficient operation of the ship’s refrigerated spaces.
  • Manage the operation and maintenance of the refrigeration and air conditioning plant.
  • Maintain the log and the running hours for all fridge plants and their related equipment.
  • Maintain temperature logs and prepare necessary temperature sheets and advise the Chief engineer/Staff Captain of any abnormalities.
  • Update and maintain the reefer engineer's daily workbook, reefer plant logbook, running hours record for the plant, repair list, and the inventory and reorder of stores and spares.
  • Ensure proper storage of stores, spares and tools and manage the storage space(s) and workshop.
  • Perform security related duties as required by the Ship Security Officer.
  • Routine maintenance, upkeep and cleanliness of the reefer and air conditioning plant spaces as per the existing planned maintenance system and as may be required in specific cases.
  • Assist the Chief and Staff engineer for record keeping and other clerical duties as required.
  • Assistance to the Chief Engineer and Staff Engineer in the following:
    • Swimming Pool machinery including dosing equipment;
    • Sauna and Spa equipment;
    • Ensure the personnel are trained and operating the systems correctly;
    • Update maintenance work in the Planned Maintenance System;
  • Actively participate in all drills, simulations and exercises conducted onboard and impart associated training as instructed by the Master or the chief engineer.
  • Will be a member of the Safety Committee or any other official shipboard body set up under the authority of the Master, if called upon to do so.
  • Any other duties as delegated by the chief engineer within the scope of the rank.
  • Responsible to the Staff Captain for the safe and efficient repair and maintenance of deck machinery.
  • Responsible to the Staff Captain and Safety Officer for the safe and efficient repair and maintenance of the lifeboat and tender engines and winches.
  • Responsible to the Chief Engineer for the safe and efficient repair, maintenance and operation of all machinery outside the main and auxiliary engine room spaces (e.g. air conditioning and refrigeration machinery, all mechanical hotel equipment and services,plumbing, etc.). Responsible to the Chief Engineer for the day to day discipline and control of those personnel assigned to him for hotel maintenance.
  • Responsible to the Chief Engineer for the safe and efficient repair and maintenance of the swimming pool systems.
  • Responsible to the Chief Engineer for the safe and efficient repair and maintenance of all doors; marina and pontoon doors, side shell doors, watertight doors, fire screen doors.
  • Responsible to the Chief Engineer for the safe and efficient repair and maintenance of the food waste management plant
  • Responsible to the Chief Engineer for the safe and efficient repair and maintenance of the cranes.
  • Responsible to Chief Engineer and Staff Captain for the safe and efficient repair and maintenance of Life boats, Tender boats, Rescue boats, Beach boats and Sport boats engines and machinery.
