We are currently recruiting for experienced Chinese speaking ELECTRONIC SYSTEMS OFFICER ( ESO ) for cruise vessel PIANO LAND, which sail on an Asian Itinerary.

Pianoland, the First Ship for Astro Cruises, has been designed exclusively for Chinese National Guests.

Embarkation October/November 2020

Contract 4 months +/-1
Wages in USD/per month worked on board - to be advised upon interview

License / Qualification requirements;

Recognized Practical Basic Electronics Certification as well as AV/IT experience

Line Manager; Chief Electrician

Direct Reports; Assistant Electronic Systems Officer (when carried)

Responsibilities as per V.Ships S&QMS: None

To assist the following with their responsibilities as per V.Ships S&QMS;

Assist Chief Electrician with Technical Department Responsibility 15 - Electrical Equipment

Responsible to the Chief Electrician for:

  • The management of the electrical sub-department.
  • The safe and efficient repair, maintenance, testing and operation of all electrical and electronic equipment on board (with the exception of those under the control of the System Manager/IT Manager).
  • The day to day discipline and control of electrical staff.

Assist 2nd Officer Safety with Deck Department Responsibility 26 - Communications

The Officer(s) in charge of communications and communication equipment has a direct reporting responsibility to the Master, particularly in respect of statutory requirements for confidentiality of communications.

He is responsible for:

  • GMDSS communication in case of emergency.
  • GMDSS and radio traffic operations.
  • General maintenance of the GMDSS equipment.
  • Inventory control of the GMDSS stores and spare.
  • The control of services to the GMDSS equipment.
  • Accounting requirements for radio communications.
  • Obtaining information re weather conditions before the departure of the ship and at least every 12 hours when the ship is at sea.
  • Ensuring that emergency radio batteries (and any other rechargeable batteries for communications equipment including aldis lamps etc) are in good condition and fully charged.
  • Ensuring any emergency associated radio/GMDSS equipment is regularly tested (ie SARTs, EPIRBs etc).
  • Monitoring the Antennas of the GMDSS equipment are in good condition.
  • Ensuring that GMDSS record keeping routines are in compliance with Statutory Regulations and Master's instructions.

    • TV broadcast system
    • Vsat / Communication system
    • Pager / Bleeper system
    • Navigation equipment
    • CCTV system
    • Fire alarm system
  • Ensure that planned maintenance assigned to their discipline is conducted and reported.
  • Coach and train Junior Officers.
  • Prepare appraisals for 'Direct Reports' in accordance with V.Ships policy.
  • Attend passenger social events as directed by the Head of Department.
  • Partake in inspections, trainings and meetings as directed by the Head of Department.
  • Other tasks pertaining to departmental operations as directed by Head of Department.

Language Requirements

Good knowledge of the Mandarin language is required.
