TECHNICIAN (HVAC - MEP) - LARGE PRIVATE ESTATE - MIDDLE EAST

BACKGROUND
- Expertise in one of the following skills:
- HVAC
- Electrical Engineering
- Mechanical Engineering
- Electronics Engineering
- Plumbing and Pipework
- Masonry
- Carpentry and Cabinetmaking
- Painting and Decorating
- Locksmithing (key cutting)
- Welding.
- Full driving licence
- Each skill should be supported by a recognized apprenticeship, certification or industry accreditation, along with documented work experience.
- Engineering experience with the construction and management of hotels and large private residences, or operating within the technical team maintaining cruise ships, large private yachts, luxury hotels or large private estates.
SKILLS & ABILITIES
- Experience with overseeing a maintenance team - able to oversee construction works and manage engineering maintenance projects by in-house personnel or external contractors.
- Excellent skills in fault-finding and assessment of remedial action to be taken.
- Knowledge of best practices for construction – mechanical, electrical, plumbing, painting, carpentry and general construction, with an eye for detail and workmanship.
- A good level of understanding of AVIT networking issues and the ability to communicate problems with these systems to system specialists and upper management would be an advantage.
- Excel / Word / Email skills – comfortable with using spreadsheets for tasks such as basic calculations, communicating project needs and requirements, maintenance lists and similar basic admin.
- Proven ability with writing reports, worklists, specifications and scopes of work.
- Proficiency in spoken and written English is essential.
ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Principal duties are to operate as part of a team to monitor the efficient and safe operation of all mechanical and electrical equipment, HVAC, pipework and plumbing essential to the day-to-day operation of a private estate.
- The MEP Technician will respond to alarms, breakdowns and call-outs, assess required remedial action, report findings to the duty Senior Technician and make arrangement for the repairs (whether conducted by Technical Department personnel or outside contractors.
- In addition, the MEP Technician will observe and report on the state of repair of buildings, plant and machinery as part of a regular inspection routine and communicate findings to the Senior Technician daily.
- The MEP Technicians will provide 24-hour cover in 8-hour shifts, so the ability to generate clear and concise handover notes for colleagues forms an essential part of the role.
- Assigning tasks to be conducted by the Technical Department staff or outside contractors, will be coordinated through the Helpdesk Operator in accordance with instructions from the duty Senior Technician. Analysing faults and writing accurate job specifications is a daily duty.
- Also acts as an assistant to the Senior Technicians and provides support to Hill Robinson Estates on-site personnel with respect to maintenance issues and overseeing all operations by external contractors with particular attention to quality of work and aesthetics.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
- Carry out routine inspections of the buildings, services and equipment. Report on repairs and maintenance requirements, by utilising experience and understanding of mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems, as well as carpentry, paintwork, general building and landscaping.
- Manage a team of up to 10 engineers and technicians for the efficient completion of day-to-day departmental tasks. Understand the areas of expertise of each team member and assign duties according to their capabilities.
- Offer advice and training to less experienced members of the team and organise staff to work together where there is an opportunity for experience to be passed on.
- Urgently respond to alarms and breakdowns and coordinate required remedial action, which may include firefighting, emergency shut-downs or personnel evacuation
- Consult with relevant personnel on specific tasks. Organise, oversee and assist with coordination of contractors and Hill Robinson Estates personnel for routine repairs and maintenance and minor construction work.
- Work closely with the 2IC and MEPs to programme repairs and maintenance, and prioritise resources to ensure all buildings, services, machinery, vehicles and associated equipment are in optimum operational condition.
- Support the Chief Technical Officer and the Technical Department with the production of operational documents including risk assessments, emergency response plans, standard operating procedures, checklists and forms.
- Monitor the Technical Department’s inventory in coordination with the Storekeeper/Handyman and assign tasks as appropriate.
- Comply with the Company's Health and Safety Policy and recognised good working practices. Ensure that all personnel under your management are fully trained, equipped and compliant.
- Always set an example with respect to regulations regarding dress code and expected modes of behaviour and ensure all Technical Department staff comply.
- Assist the management and other Hill Robinson Estates personnel in such other matters as may be reasonably required.
GENERAL WORKING PRACTICES
- A flexible approach towards working hours is required. This job may require shift working seven days a week, including public holidays, but night working is not normally necessary.
- The MEP Technician may be required from time to time to assist with other duties within his reasonable capabilities.
- As with all members of staff, the MEP Technician is always on call in times of emergency or severe weather.
Work Experience Requirements
All applicants must have previous experience in working on a Cruise Ship, in a 4/5* Hotel or in an Upscale Restaurant.
Language Requirements
Good knowledge of the English language is required.
