ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

This is a shipboard position. All duties and responsibilities are to be performed in accordance with Royal Caribbean International’s The Royal Way, SQM standards, USPH guidelines, environmental, and safety policies.

In accordance with Royal Caribbean International’s philosophy of Anchored in Excellence, each employee conducts oneself in a professional and courteous manner at all times. This consists of physical and verbal interactions with guests or fellow shipboard employees and/or in the presence of guest contact and crew areas.

Each shipboard employee may be required to perform all functions in various service venues and throughout the ship.

1. Reporting Structure

  • The LNGE reports directly to the Stage Production Manager(s).
  • The LNGE reports to the Head Sound and Light Technician for their daily and weekly schedule.

2. General Duties

  • Responsible for the operation, programming, maintenance, repair, inspection and troubleshooting of all live entertainment auxiliary venues’ sound and lighting systems.
  • Proactively supports the live-entertainment program, including groups, charters, promotional, incentive, presentations, and other related activities where audio and lighting support is required. This may take place onboard the ship, the pier or any private destination.
  • May be called to stand in for any of the entertainment venues’ Sound or Light Technicians if the need arises.
  • Can expect to be on a duty rotation to carry out duties as assigned by the Stage Production Manager(s) and/or Head Sound and Light Technician.

3. Maintenance, Repairs, and Inventory

  • Responsible for:

         • The operational reliability, maintenance, and proper documentation of all auxiliary entertainment
           venues, as well as all backline equipment used in these venues.
         • Completing AMOS Work Orders issued by the Stage Production Manager(s) and Head Sound and            Light Technician.
         • Works closely with the Head Sound and Light Technician to ensure that all working spaces remain           clean, organized, and inventoried maintaining a state of 100% readiness. In the event of                             malfunctioning equipment, works with entertainment technical and/or shipboard management teams           to remedy the problem.
         • Creates and maintains a band setup book detailing the setup and technical rider of each band.                 This document is to be updated regularly and passed along to the Head Sound and Light                           Technician for archiving and future referencing.
       • Coordinates with Stage Production Manager(s) and Head Sound and Light Technician to ensure                 that accurate and up to date records of all sound and lighting related equipment are kept. This                   includes inventory, maintenance, guarantee claimed items and items landed for repair and expected           to return to the ship.

4. Coaching, Development and Rescue Training

  • Provides insight, training, and guidance to all interested promotional candidates to strengthen their current performance and possible advancement to LNGE.

5. Administrative Function

  • Attends applicable related shipboard meetings and trainings as required.
  • As entertainment backline equipment is delivered or landed to the ship, ensure that it is tested, inventoried and either placed into service or placed in spares storage.
  • Ensures that a complete set of updated band layouts for each entertainment venue is readily accessible to the other Technicians and Technical Stage Staff.
  • Working with the Technical Director Entertainment, Stage Production Manager(s) and Head Sound and Light Technician, ensures that regular data backups are made of all show files and that these are stored securely according to policy.
  • In order to maintain continuity of business, the Lounge Technician shall ensure that accurate and up to date notes are kept and treated as a living document. This document must include written, photo, and video documentation to allow a smooth changeover with the incoming Lounge Technician reliever.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Completion of high school or basic education equivalency required.
  • Bachelors or Associates in Technical Theater, Sound, Lights, A/V preferred, or demonstrated equivalent experience.
  • Background in stage, technical theatre and production, including proper microphone placement technique, stage monitor engineering.
  • Good working knowledge of analog and digital mixing consoles (i.e., those manufactured by Mackie, Yamaha, and DiGiCo). Should also be able to operate analog outboard gear such as graphic and parametric equalizers, gates, compressors, limiters, and effects units.
  • Knowledge and understanding of:

• network-based lighting and audio distribution and system signal flow

• regular maintenance and upkeep on conventional and intelligent lighting fixtures

• “backline equipment” (i.e., guitar, keyboard and bass guitar amplifiers)

  • Must be able to:

• Read and understand band/performer requirements to support live performances and events

• physically set up and strike bands, and know proper microphone and stage monitor placement

• perform basic and/or component level troubleshooting and ability to provide routine maintenance on various types of audio equipment.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

  • Ability to work well with others. This is essential, as the Lounge Technician will be working with several groups of musicians and many other crew members on a regular basis.
  • Well versed in various software applications applicable to entertainment technology, i.e., Qlab, QSYS, and Pro Logic.
  • Maintaining knowledge of technological and software advancements in the live entertainment industry.

LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to speak English clearly, distinctly and cordially under all circumstances.
  • Ability to read and write English in order to understand and interpret written procedures (equipment manuals, operations manuals, memos, technical procedures and necessary rules and regulations). This includes the ability to give and receive instructions in written and verbal forms, and to effectively present information to subordinates and colleagues.
