V.Ships Leisure is looking for Human Resources Manager on behalf of Azamara Cruises.
The Human Resources Manager is a strategic HR professional, and a member of the Executive Committee, that partners with the leadership team to develop and implement human resources strategies and programs that are in line with the individual business units and organizational mission and vision. The HR Manager also serves as a strategic partner to the shipboard leadership team by providing human resources direction and guidance on all employee related issues. The HR Manager must have extensive knowledge in all aspects of HR including recruitment, employee relations, performance management, organizational development, learning, compensation, benefits and HR systems. The HR Manager leads and manages the ship’s Human Resources Department. The Human Resources Manager serves as the Compliance and Ethics officer and, in that role, shall report directly to the Captain. He/she shall also maintain a close reporting relationship with the Captain and the Executive Committee members for all crew related affairs. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Advising managers and crew on the development and execution of onboard HR strategies and activities that foster growth, innovation and organizational effectiveness. 
  • Assess the onboard human resources needs in areas such as performance management, employee relations, career development and leadership development and drive the appropriate solutions in these areas. 
  • Manage the Crew Welfare budget in accordance with the SOP.  
  • Educate and supports the onboard management with regards to HR policies, procedures and standards including the company’s performance management system, and the promotions process. Partner with Department and Division Heads to ensure a consistent and fair application, and that crew always considers they are treated fairly.  
  • Ensures compliance of onboard rules and regulations, as applicable taking into account relevant MLC, STCW, ILO, Flag and LMVS. 
  • Implementation and administration of the onboard benefit programs, processes and policies. 
  • Oversees sign on and sign off procedures, crew immigration/customs and all other issues related to the HR Center, including turnover and unplanned movement.  
  • Oversees crew payroll, and the accurate recording and processing of shipboard payroll.  
  • Facilities professional development through training opportunities, and career advancement.  Develops direct reports and high potential members of the Human Resources team to strengthen their current performance and prepare for future advancement.  
  • Responsible for ensuring compliance with the Code of Business Conduct and Ethics as the Compliance and Ethics Officer onboard. Leads investigations into potential ethical violations and resolves accordingly.  
  • Ensures a commitment to crew satisfaction, and with other leaders onboard, inspires crew through encouragement and recognition of outstanding performance. Responsible for overseeing crew events and activities.  
  • Oversees the implementation of the “Go Further” and STAR recognition programs, including onboard training.  
  • Challenge practices if there are better ways of doing things and inspire others to do the same, focusing on continuous improvement, identifying problems and finding solutions. Creates a climate of trust and mutual respect.  
  • Measures and actions the ship performance against KPIs targets, and informing responsible managers of any upcoming issues. 
  • Responsible for effectively managing the time and attendance of their own and direct reports’ work and rest hours in accord with MLC regulations and company procedures. 
  • Shipboard employees will be required to perform any other job-related duties assigned by their supervisor or management. 
  • This position is responsible for cost containment through the proper use, handling and maintenance of records, reports, supplies and equipment. 
  • Strives for an engaged, professional and stable HR Department with pride in both ship and company being led by motivated and high-performing managers and crewmembers. 
  • Oversees the implementation of crewmember recognition programs.  
  • Approves and oversees the crewmember recreation program and ensures, within established guidelines, that the crewmember environment continuously improves. 
  • Identifies and develops onboard talent with assistance from Division Heads and the Executive Committee. 
  • As the Ethics Officer onboard, personifies all of the Company's principles and standards, acting as a role model at all times. 
  • Self-motivation: Takes the initiative to stay abreast of currents trends in leadership and Human Resources by reading relevant books, periodicals, and pursuing other job-related learning platforms. 


Education/Experience/Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree (or International equivalent) from an accredited university or college in Human Resources, Business Administration, Psychology or related field is required or 10 years senior management experience in human resources. 
  • Minimum five years progressive experience in Human Resources Management.  
  • Minimum of three years in employee relations investigating, negotiating and resolving grievances and conflicts, preferably in a multi-culture, diverse environment. 
  • Strong analytical and written communication skills 
  • Communicates tactfully, effectively and confidently with crew members, guest and department/division heads, both on one and in larger group settings. 
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office – Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
  • Completion of two contract with a performance rating of proficient or above along with demonstrated HR experience and Leadership skills.  
  • No disciplinary action on file for the last 12 months.  
  • Ability to speak English clearly, distinctly, and cordially with crew and guests. 
  • Ability to read and write English to understand and interpret written procedures. 
  • This includes the ability to give and receive instructions in written and verbal forms and to effectively present information and respond to questions from crew, guests, and co-workers. 
  • Ability to speak additional languages such as Spanish, French, or German is preferred.
