Position Summary
- Responsible to assist with the lubrication of bearings and other moving parts of the engine and mechanical equipment onboard. Providing general assistance in the operation of propulsion systems and mechanical equipment.
Reporting Structure
- Reporting to the Staff Engineer and on duty Engineer.
Safety Duties:
- Participates in crew safety drills according to instructions.
- Must always comply with the Company’s safety and pollution prevention regulations and operating procedures.
- Leads by example by taking care of Health and Safety of self and others.
- Ensures that all work equipment, personal protective equipment, chemicals and safety devices are being used correctly.
Education/Experience/Qualifications:
- Valid STCW certification.
- Valid ASE A-III/5.
- Basic knowledge of mechanics, operation and maintenance of vessel machinery and mechanical equipment.
- Experience on vessels in an equivalent positon.
- Physically and medically fit.
- Moral integrity is required.
Language requirements:
Excellent fluent English (verbal, written and technical). English is the working and safety language on board. This also includes the ability to give and receive instructions in verbal and written forms and to effectively and efficiently engage with guests and crew members. Additional languages are considered beneficial.
Physical Demands and Working Conditions:
Required to stand, walk long distances, reaching and sitting. Repetitive motion of bending, going up and down stairs, climbing ladders. Lifting or pushing of up to 50lbs. The position requires overtime work and irregular schedules. Works in the Engine Control Room, Engine spaces with noise, light traffic, distracting environments.

Key Responsibilities
- Stands engine watch as instructed by the Staff Engineer.
- Continuously supervises and inspects machinery spaces during watch and promptly report any deficiencies or malfunctions to the on duty engineer.
- General monitoring of controls, indicators and gauges of temperatures, pressure and condition of the systems and oil levels. Recording all data accurately in required logs.
- Assists with engineering tasks onboard (to include but not limited to the following):
- Carrying out overhauls.
- Welding.
- Carrying out steelworks and pipe fitting.
- To assist with repairs and preventative maintenance of the AC systems, water and sewage.
- To provide support during bunkering.
- To be part of the technical loading team during intake of provisions.
- Assists with general maintenance (to include but not limited to the following):
- Cleaning.
- Painting.
- Repairs.
- Keeps the Chief Engineer, Staff Engineer and duty Engineer promptly and fully informed of all problems, any issues that may compromise the ships safety and any deficiencies found in the machinery or equipment.
- Must be competent in using the internal communications systems and have good knowledge of the Engine Room alarms.
- Responsible for informing the on duty Engineer whenever leaving the engine room to perform duties elsewhere.
- Responsible for keeping the engine room and all other machinery areas clean, along with all parts and tools used.
- Accountable for ensuring that Company, Public Health, National and International standards are maintained and meeting requirements. Reporting to the Staff Engineer any instances where the ship is unable or fails to comply.
- Observes and enforces uniform and grooming standards according to Company policies.
- Ensures that other team members are informed and updated on the occurrences during the watch.
- Practices good people management, maintaining proper conduct within the Engine department and other departments around the ship.
- General engine room and all other duties as assigned by supervisors.
Details
Embarkation on 17/Sep/2025, contract 6 months +/-1, required experienced as such, all valid certificates, good references/recommendations. SH Diana will be crossing Red Sea !
