HVAC Technician

About the Role
We’re currently seeking an experienced HVAC Technician to join a leading international cruise line. You’ll be part of the ship’s technical team, ensuring the safe and efficient operation of refrigeration, ventilation, and air conditioning systems on board. Working under the management of the HVAC Engineer, you’ll play a key role in maintaining guest comfort and operational reliability.

Your Life Onboard
As an HVAC Technician, you’ll be responsible for both refrigeration and ventilation systems throughout the vessel. From cold storage plants to air conditioning units, you’ll carry out regular maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs while upholding safety and environmental standards. This is a hands-on role that directly contributes to the wellbeing of both guests and crew.

Key Responsibilities

Refrigeration Systems:

  • Operate, maintain, and repair the provisions refrigerating plant, including compressors, piping systems, and fittings
  • Monitor and supervise storage temperatures of chilled rooms, freezer rooms, and refrigerators
  • Conduct alarm tests and calibrate thermometers in chilled and freezer rooms
  • Handle and monitor provision cooling units and refrigerated catering equipment, recording and minimizing refrigerant leakages
  • Maintain and repair ice machines and beverage dispensing systems, including cleaning and sanitizing
  • Perform inventory checks of spares and consumables

Ventilation & Air Conditioning Systems:

  • Operate, maintain, and repair the air conditioning system, monitoring room air quality across all vessel compartments
  • Supervise operational parameters of the HVAC plant and perform planned maintenance on AC units, ducts, supply and exhaust fans
  • Ensure safe operation and maintenance of fire dampers
  • Inspect machinery ventilation systems daily in the engine room
  • Maintain and adjust fan outlets in cabins for optimal performance
  • Record and control departmental logbooks and records, ensuring data accuracy in spare parts procurement

General Duties

  • Independently perform assigned work tasks to a high standard
  • Assist the HVAC Engineer and senior managers with safety-related duties as required
  • Support HESS compliance, USPH, PMS, and other regulatory checks and inspections
  • Promote and maintain a strong safety and health culture on board, reporting any violations immediately

What We’re Looking For

  • Recognized technical qualification in HVAC, refrigeration, or marine engineering
  • Proven experience maintaining and repairing refrigeration and air conditioning systems, preferably in a marine or industrial environment
  • Strong technical knowledge of refrigeration plants, AC systems, ventilation units, and related equipment
  • Familiarity with environmental and safety regulations (HESS, USPH, PMS compliance an advantage)
  • Ability to work independently as well as within a multicultural technical team
