RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Shall assist the 2nd Engineer with safe and efficient watch keeping and also assist with the maintenance and repair of plant and machinery within his area of responsibility.
• Keep a close communication with the 2nd Engineer.
• Watch-keeping duties.
• Check all areas in machinery spaces at least every 1hour of his watch. Including external machinery spaces (bow-thruster, stern thruster, and steering gear rooms).
• Report any defects or deficiencies immediately to 2nd Engineer on watch.
• Be familiar with safe operation of equipment and systems in machinery spaces.
• Communicate with 2nd Engineer regarding machinery space operations.
• Maintain all machinery spaces in a clean and safe condition.
• Calibrate the chlorine content analyzer for potable water bunkering/production systems as instructed by the 2nd Engineer. Record calibration and start/stop times on the chart.
• Additional duties as directed by the 2nd Engineer.
• Be familiar with the Safety Management System and have a full understanding of his/her responsibilities in the Safety Organization as per the Emergency Plan.
• It is the responsibility of every crewmember to perform duties according to the Superior Officer’s instruction; the work should be carried out in a safe and professional manner, in order to keep the ship’s equipment at the highest level of safe operating condition.

QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

• Documented experience from related jobs.
• STCW 2010 courses.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Able to work 7 days a week for a minimum period for extended period of time.
• While performing the essential functions of this job, all team members are required to stand; walk long distances on the ship; use hands to touch, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk, hear, taste and smell.  All vessel positions require repetitive motion of bending, climbing, going up and down stairs and lifting up to 23 kilograms.  This job requires specific vision abilities to include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
• All team members must be physically able to participate in emergency life saving procedures and drills. All vessel positions require full use and range of arms and legs as well as full visual, verbal and hearing abilities to receive and give instructions in the event of an emergency including the lowering of lifeboats.
• Assist with zodiac landings, Marina days and Expeditions when required.
• Work within different temperature changes—indoors to outdoors.
• Able to pass basic safety course.
