Line Crewing is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Head Cabin Steward/ess to work onboard European river cruise vessels, with full onboard accommodation provided.


- will be under Seasonal Dutch Contracts, running from March to November, with a potential continuation into refugee operations thereafter. Contracts are based on 38 working hours per week, with overtime paid accordingly.


Experience, Skills, and Character

  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in a similar position or within the Cabins Department onboard cruise vessels.
  • Strong public relations skills with an excellent command of English and/or German.
  • Computer skills including iOS, Windows, and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel), or similar ship management software.
  • Experience with stock control systems, inventory management, order files, and timesheets.
  • Ability to deal with both crew members and passengers in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Self-motivated individual with the ability to lead, motivate, and supervise departmental crew members.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills, with the ability to work comfortably in a multicultural environment.
  • Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, and consistently meet company standards.
  • Strong character with well-developed leadership skills.
  • Pleasant disposition, friendly personality, and a high level of patience and understanding.
  • Flexibility to work variable schedules according to company requirements and standards.

Duties and Responsibilities
Guest Service & Professional Conduct

  • Maintain a friendly, professional, and approachable attitude toward passengers and crew at all times.
  • Handle passenger complaints efficiently, professionally, and with discretion.
  • Lead by example, promoting positive working practices and high team morale.
  • Maintain effective two-way communication with the crew, addressing daily operational and personal matters.

Cabin Department Supervision & Standards

  • Establish, implement, and uphold Cabins Department standards across all passenger areas in accordance with the Hotel Management Manual.
  • Continuously review, improve, and update cabin procedures to maintain high service standards.
  • Supervise cabin personnel effectively, ensuring proper organization, coordination, and performance.
  • Ensure compliance with assigned working schedules and cleaning routines.
  • Conduct daily inspections of all cabins and assigned public areas, ensuring deficiencies are promptly corrected.
  • Ensure crew members perform duties in line with their job descriptions, taking corrective action when required.

Training, Leadership & Administration

  • Carry out inductions and training programs for new crew members and monitor their ongoing performance.
  • Oversee general administrative duties within the Cabins Department.
  • Maintain accurate records, including counseling reports, warnings, and performance documentation.
  • Request assistance from the Hotel Manager when necessary and maintain regular communication to ensure smooth operations.

Inventory, Budget & Equipment Control

  • Control the departmental budget by managing supplies and maintaining accurate stock inventories.
  • Coordinate with other Heads of Department regarding orders and inventory of cleaning chemicals, utensils, garbage materials, and guest amenities (such as water bottles and chocolates).
  • Ensure proper use, care, and condition of all equipment and materials within the department.
  • Monitor and manage vending machine orders and revenues in the Crew Mess in cooperation with the Hotel Manager.

Safety, Compliance & Hygiene

  • Ensure cabin crew members comply with uniform regulations and maintain high standards of personal hygiene.
  • Adhere to and strictly enforce vessel security, fire, and safety procedures in accordance with company regulations.
  • Report all technical issues in cabins and public areas directly to the Hotel Manager and ensure follow-up with engineers or relevant departments.

Crew Areas & Welfare

  • Take responsibility for the cleanliness and organization of the Messroom and Crew Areas.
  • Inspect crew cabins with the Hotel Manager when requested.
  • Oversee the ordering, distribution, and condition of crew uniforms in coordination with the Hotel Manager.
  • Consult with cabin crew members regarding existing standards and propose service improvements to the Hotel Manager.

Communication & Coordination

  • Maintain daily communication with the Cabins Team and Hotel Manager to ensure efficient operations and strong teamwork across departments.
