As the Staff Captain, you will serve as the Master"s Deputy and Second in Command of the ship. You will be familiarized with the Master"s duties, responsibilities, and authorities. Additionally, you must be prepared to take command without notice.

Career snapshot: 

  • In command of the Deck Department and responsible for all deck-related activities
  • Accountable to the Master regarding all aspects of shipboard security, including the implementation and effectiveness of the Ship Security Plan and other company security policies
  • Responsible for the ship"s emergency plan, crew emergency assignments, and instructions in conjunction with the Chief Officer Safety
  • Oversees all aspects security of the ship, its passengers and crew. Investigates accidents, incidents, and nonconformities in conjunction with the Chief Officer Safety and Security Officer, and ensure the required reports are completed timely and accurately
  • Responsible for all reports of misconduct and takes appropriate action or makes recommendations to the Master according to the Company’s policy. Ensure cooperation with the HR Manager on crew issues.
  • Accountable for the ship’s loading condition
  • Overall responsibility for USPH matters pertaining to the Centers for Disease Control Vessel Sanitation Program, compliance with the Outbreak Prevention Plan, and ensure seaworthiness of the vessel in a timely manner when weather conditions or other situations require so

Qualifications

Requirements:

  • Graduate of Maritime Academy
  • Hold an unlimited Master’s License in accordance with the STCW (regulations II/2) convention issued by a country that has ratified the convention
  • Must have received training in accordance with the STCW
  • Extensive previous experience as Staff Captain and Chief Officer Safety on a large vessel in the cruise industry
  • Verbal and written proficiency in English, with the ability to speak the language clearly, distinctly and cordially with guests
  • All international applicants must have the ability to obtain C1/D visa (and other relevant visas) when applicable
  • Must meet all physical requirements, including the ability to participate in emergency life-saving drills and required training

Preferences:

  • Verbal fluency in additional languages such as German, Spanish or French
