To manage the technical operation of the Marella Cruises owned and chartered vessels in a safe and cost effective manner so they are capable of delivering cruise products to the required standard.
Reporting to the Head of Technical Operations, the Engineering Manager is responsible for ensuring that the fleet is technically managed and operated in the most cost effective manner and in compliance with all International, Flag State and Port State legal requirements.
What you will be doing
You will ensuring that there is proper management of spare parts and engine stores.Monitoring performance against budgets and agreed operating standards, the Engineering Manager is responsible for implementing machinery and hull performance monitoring in the context of long-term vessels’ operational costs savings. Reviewing the technical managers’ repair specifications, they will take into account the requirements of Class Society, Owners’ and Company’s standards, PMS reports, deck, tank/hold and machinery condition reports, defect reports, the Master’s and C/E’s reports and national, port state and international legislation.
The Engineering Manager will review all reports of technical non-conformities, incidents or near misses and follow-up the implementation and verification of corrective/preventive actions process including evaluation of their effectiveness. The role holder will ensure that the technical managers are implementing preventive maintenance of hull, main machinery, deck machinery, electrical equipment, etc, as described in the PMS and set by the Class/Flag State requirements.
Monitoring Classification Society and Flag State requirements and overseeing surveys as necessary, the Engineering Manager will ensure that the certification of assigned vessels are maintained in accordance with the relevant Class and Flag State requirements. Keeping abreast of Statutory and Class regulations and standards. The Engineering Manager will advise the Head of Technical Operations as it becomes apparent that investment is required to comply with any changes.
The Engineering Manager will travel around the fleet, inspecting vessels, monitoring and evaluating the performance and working practices of the ships’ engineers. You will be responsible for ensuring the onboard team working conditions are safe and monitoring all technical problems, major defects and follow up, until corrective action is verified. You will audit the logbooks, the Oil Record Books, etc. and ensure that contingency plans and other manuals are updated. You will work with vessels’ Document of Compliance holders to develop Safety Management Systems to implement TUI procedures and standards of operation.
The Engineering Manager will attend repairs and out of service maintenance periods to ensure that work is being conducted as required and costs are being properly controlled. Evaluate repair quotations, selecting repair Companies and location of the repairs, based on the “best quality of works” / “cost” relation, taking into account the vessels’ itinerary and Charter Party obligations. You will audit the Planned Maintenance System .You will ensure that there is proper management of spare parts and engine stores and ensure that the purchase orders for engine spares/stores are reviewed for accuracy.
Monitoring and evaluating the performance and working practices of the ships’ engineers. Along with monitoring all technical problems, major defects and follow up, until corrective action is verified. You will liaising with the Cruise Marine Manager to achieve the optimum vessels’ performance within the constraints of the scheduled itineraries. Controlling and monitoring the lub-oil and bunker consumption against budget. You will be monitoring all aspects/performance of safety and environmental protection related to the vessels’ technical operation and contacting the ship’s technical managers when such performance does not meet with the Company’s standards.
The Engineering Manager will work with hotel management and product development teams to deliver hotel refurbishment and upgrade products and will prepare data to support business cases for technical and hotel refurbishment projects.
What we are looking for
Key skills and knowledge required:
- Preferably qualified to STCW III/2, but other marine engineering qualifications may be considered depending on professional experience and aptitude for the role.
- Sea going experience and, ideally, shore-based experience of vessel management or support
- Good understanding and experience of dealing with maritime legal issues and Class requirements.
- Experienced in vessel asset management and/or dry docking and major refits

- Team player with proven people and project management skills; ability to influence multi-disciplinary teams constructively where they do not have line management authority
- Track record in meeting tight deadlines in a pressurised environment
- Analytical, logical and methodical
- Clear articulate communicator with good negotiation and presentation skills
- Proactive, dynamic self-starter who is able to work independently and build effective relationships both within a team and with other organisations

Work Experience Requirements
All applicants must have previous experience in working on a Cruise Ship, in a 4/5* Hotel or in an Upscale Restaurant.
Language Requirements
