Motorman
Authority and Interrelation
- The motorman / oiler is a member of the engine department.
- Reports to the second engineer or when on watch, to the duty engineer.
- Authorised to safely and efficiently carry out the tasks mentioned below.
Responsibility (including but not limited to)
- Understand and abide by all relevant documentation, regulations, guidelines and procedures. Sign copies as instructed by the superior officer to indicate understanding of the same.
- Report any undesired events, unsafe practices or near accidents observed to the superior officer/s and attempt to rectify them if safely possible.
- Keep watch in the engine room under the supervision of the Duty Engineer or perform daywork issued by the Second Engineer.
- Carry out maintenance work on machinery and associated spaces including cleaning and painting as specified by his superior.
- Carry out repair of machinery specified by his superior.
- Will be a member of the Safety Committee or any other official shipboard body set up under the authority of the Master, if called upon to do so.
- Attend anchor & mooring station during arrival and departure port.
- Participate in all training programme or drills and exercises as directed.
- Participate in Waste Management duties as instructed by his supervising officer.
- Perform security related duties as required by the Ship Security Officer.
- When directed, carry out duties in other departments as directed by the Second Engineer, within the scope of the rank.
- Act as Departmental Environmental Representative if required
