2nd Bosun

We are pleased to announce that we are looking to hire a 2nd Bosun for the Deck Department, working for the BSMCruise managed vessels.

Your responsibility will include, but will not be limited to:

Main Responsibilities:

Supervise Deck Ratings with regard to:
Safe working environments and conditions
Assignment of tasks and duties
Maintenance work
Preparation and movement of cranes and equipment
Safe working practices including the proper use of correct PPE.
Compliance with work and rest hours
Cleanliness and upkeep of:
Deck storerooms and workshops.
Open decks and exterior areas of the vessel
Swimming pools, hot tubs, and Jacuzzis
Inspection and Maintenance (under supervision of HoDD) of equipment including but not limited to:
Mooring ropes and equipment, winches / windlass / winch brakes
Anchor, cable, running and securing gear.
Deck fittings such as Bits, Bollards, fairleads, rollers, etc.
Safety harness and lifelines
Bosun’s chairs and plank stages, gantlines, paint raft
Hull exterior and interior upkeep and maintenance
Organise toolbox talk meetings.
Ensure appropriate Permits to Work are in place.
Work team leader for maintenance in enclosed spaces.
Set-up and use of specialised equipment (such as paint sprayer, hydro-blaster, etc.)
Inventory control and requisitions of deck department consumables and spares.
Compliance with safe working practices
Speaking up and/or stopping work when unsafe acts or conditions are identified.
Compliance with BSM’s SMS and international standards and regulations

Supervise and assist with:

Correct rigging and safe use of lifting gear
MSDS documentation for paints and chemicals

Assist with:

Operational and maintenance planning as assigned by the HoDD.
Issue of applicable Permits to Work with SafO
Tender schedules with SafO
Mooring, unmooring and anchoring stations.
Supervision of lifeboat, rescue boat and tender preparation and launching
Crew matters, such as discipline, welfare, and morale.
Crew skills development.

Other duties and responsibilities:

Form part of the emergency response team (specific duties as per ship’s emergency organisation)
Ship security duties.
Environmental compliance
Participate in emergency training and drills on deck.
Report any non-conformities or defects.
Keep and promote high standards of discipline and behaviour.
Perform additional tasks as assigned by the HoDD.

Qualifications:

Up-to-date technical knowledge of deck maintenance
Excellent knowledge of safety requirements
Good verbal and written command of the English language
Good leadership skills including but not limited to:
Communication skills
Organisation and planning
Problem-solving
Ability to lead, motivate and develop multinational crew.
Neat appearance

Key Attributes:
• Previous shipboard experience or relevant experience in similar position
• Fluent in English – must have excellent oral and written communication skills
• Flexibility – must be able to work various times of the day, remain calm under pressure and have a can-do attitude
